Evening fellas, 1st post in the old Celtic Chat tonight.

I am sitting watching the AC Milan game from this years CL on Celtic TV and was actually admiring the performance of Perrier-Doumbe. He was solid at RB, and wasn't exactly pish at getting on the overlap. Was a bad injury he picked up to be honest, and I reckon he would have got himself a run in the team if he didnt pick up the knock.

Was wondering if you think the year extension he got was more because he was injured or if he was admired by the back room staff.

Could see him and Hinkel pushing for RB Next season and Wilson being used more as cover for LB with Naylor having a pretty poor season, as when he came to the 1st team at LB I thought Wilson looked decent.

    Thoughts ??

As a wee side note, Caldwell has been night and day from this performance to recent ones. Diving in, mistiming, stray passes.

Good to see him improving greatly recently. :50:

I've liked the look of Doumbe when he's played, and if given an extended run, I think could be good.

I went to the end of season reserve game against Hibs, Doumbe seemed to play on the right of a back 3 that day. He put in a very credibal performance, commanding in the air- something we have never had at the RB position... he cme of after an hour or so, I think there are obviously some worries over his fitness but a good preseason should set him in good stead for next season.

Doumbe would beat Hinkel anyday for right back.. its just his injury was bad and now i see us selling him to some nobody club where he will just fade away :38:

So he has 1 year left on his contract?

He is a decent player and there's no harm in having him around the squad. If he can keep practicing at playing at LB then he could be even more valuable.I think this is what the management are thinking because he has played at LB in recent Reserve matches. He is experienced as well which is something we lack a bit in the squad.

I would be pretty happy going into the new season with a top LB and Wilson and Doumbe as cover.

We have the choice of 4 RBs at the moment which is far too many for to keep them all satisfied. I'd rather have 2 left footed players to chose from than one and a make shift. I think WGS has to make his mind up who he'll keep over the summer.

My choice would be if possible:

    RB - Wilson, Caddis
    LB - ??????, Naylor

Hope I'm wrong but Hinkel's too slow. Good on the ball though.

I like Doumbe I think he has done quite well when he has played. It's just he has been injured so much in his time at Celtic so far. I definitely think he could have a shot at starting ahead of Naylor with a good pre-season behind him. At the very least we now have a decent full back pool with Hinckel, Naylor, Wilson, Doumbe and Caddis. Those 5 should be good enough going into next season to give us quality, competition and cover for those 2 spots.

It's not rocket science - Strachan bought hinkel cos all the r/b's were injured - 4 r/b's + 1 l/b - i don't dislike any of the players but how naylor can consistently deliver poor crosses, what the *'s he working on in training. Sell a r/b + buy a l/b

He's good, aye, but not left-footed. If he masters the play at LB, I'd be happy with him in the club.

He was very good in his short spell last season, and was playing well against Milan before getting injured worth a shot.
