the problem is there are too many other players who play in his natural position Donati likes to push forward and play in an attacking role but when he was playing beside Brown it was brown who took that role and in turn he was playing a more holding defensive midfield role you also have robson now who also like to attack from midfield so the guys just not first choice but only coz he has not really been given the chance to play in his natural position also strachan plays a 4-4-2 he is used to more continental formations like 3-5-2 where you can allow 2 of the central midfielders to push forward in stead of one.
