What do people interpret that as from what Rodgers said?

Daft aswell considering Costa could be on the move but that's their way spending a considerable amount of money on a youth setup players come through but they spend big to bring in players to replace outgoing players

I think we must be close to a deal if Rodgers is talking about him like that.

Always remember when we were linked with Sinclair he never really spoke about it until about a week before we signed him.

If this did happen what sort of player are we looking at, competition for Dembele and Griffiths, a replacement for Roberts or both/neither? Can't say I've heard of him.

I can only see him coming if one of Dembele Griffiths go. Unless Rodgers doesn't think Aitchison has a future that is which I doubt.

I'd hate for Aitchison to be 'our' Solanke a couple of years down the line. Wanting to leave because he's not been giving a chance.

We need 3 strikers fighting for 1 position. We have seen this season that if both Dembele and Griffiths are injured (which has happened on two different occasions during the season)) then we are stuck with a midfielder playing a false 9(which Roberts done) as such which is fine in the SPL but if that happened in the champions league we are *. If we manage to offload Cifcti then we will need another striker so why can it not be Solanke.

Aitchinson looks a great talent but he isnt going to be challanging for a first team spot yet he is only 17 at the end of the day.

He can play on the wing, in behind or up top.

Dembele and Griffiths will stay. In a years time if Dembele goes then he could.then easily step up.

    Aitchison is only 16.

I don't buy that. If we had 3 strikers and they all got injured at the same time would be talking about needing a 4th incase it happens again? Aitchison could easily have played in those games. He's more than ready for more first team game time. We should have two players for each position then youth as back up.

He should be given a chance or he should be loaned out. He's at the point that he's going to have to start getting minutes with the first team before he starts stagnating. This will be his third season with the 20's.

For the money Solanke, Dembele and Griffiths would be on it'd be mental having 2 on the bench.

Have a feeling griffiths might be off, don't see dembele leaving until next year imo. Even saying that solanke can play on the wings so he could be a replacement for roberts? Either way he's a terrific talent who would no doubt be beneficial.

Aitchison is at the point where he isn't capable enough to always be coming off the bench as a 3rd striker, but he is too good to be solely playing U-20's/development league football. He'll probably go out on a development loan next year to a Championship side, like Nesbitt and others have done this year, and play in the UEFA Youth League when required.

Solanke would be a great 3rd choice striker, who could also play with Dembele/Griffiths as a No. 10 or winger. Having him for a year before Dembele inevitably goes South would be a great situation; to bed him in and to test his versatility/improve his skills further. Unfortunately, I can't see him signing and Roberts staying as well. They would probably get in each other's way on the squad sheet, which wouldn't serve either that well.

As has said he can play as any of the three behind the striker or up top himself. Anyway, who's to say we won't play a different formation next season? Could easily see us playing the 3-5-2 on a more regular basis, especially domestically.

Would be happy with this, very little risk

Rodgers may also be looking at it as an opportunity not to be missed.

He either gets him in now for a development fee bargain and bleeds him in over the next year for when Dembele will (potentially) leave.

Or he doesn't go for it and let's him move on somewhere else.

He wants a 22 or 23 man squad all of whom would be capable of stepping in. Supplemented by youth. Having 3 forward's would be part of that.

Whether you buy it or not, Aitchison will be ready when Rodgers says so.

    And not a minute sooner...

I wasn't buying the arguement we simply need to buy another player incase all the players in that position get injured.

Wasn't to do with whether or not Rodgers thinks Aitchison is ready. That was a different point. Sinclair, Roberts and Aitchison played while Griff and Moussa where injured for a few weeks. The idea we should spend big money a player just because of those few weeks was the point.

    Thought it was pretty clear.

    Aye that's my thinking.

We might not be crying out for another striker but given Solanke is available for £400 grand and Dembele could be off after next season, it would be crazy not to at least try to sign him.
