Believing in life and your imagination having any meaning at all is the worst of sobriety's illusions. We are born into a class system, you think you're free from it and your thoughts are taken seriously? You need a swally :100:

Surely there must be other forms of escapism which don't involve getting * though. I mean you could workout, cycle, walk, run, go hiking, go rock climbing, go to the beach, play/learn an instrument, play video games, read, watch a movie, go for a game of 5 aside and plenty of other stuff.

I think you mean you believe in life having no meaning rather than no meaning to life. That suggests a positive mind.

There are hundreds of things to do but we're a culture where regular drinking is so ingrained that it's less normal if you don't drink.

Our ancestors worked down mines 12 hours a day and they welcomed the sweet taste of alcohol that took their mind to an interesting place and their personalities were established, the strong and the weak the intelligent and the natural knowledge some are blessed with. But could we break through the system? Our ancestors tried, the Native Americans warned us, don't mess with the class system of nature, it will rearrange you.

It would be cool if you explained why it made sense to you and why it might not make sense to everyone else but it might too, there has to be the balance of distribution of information so we can make decisions.

I drink every night, near enough.

Still have a big house, happy children and a job.

It only becomes a problem for people who already have problems or are too weak to face up to their responsibilities.

Some even use it as an excuse.
