It's an awkward word granted but I think for a song for instance to be sectarian it would have to express hatred or insults to another, different sect. A song which is pro your sect is not sectarian.

Because I think the SAM song is tasteless? * has a song about rocket launchers in 1980s n. Ireland got to do with my (and most Scottish tims) Irish heritage from 150 years ago or a football club formed as a charitable instituation to economically help these 19th century immigrants? There is a range of opinions about historic songs but I think you would find that that is the very sort of song that only a tiny percentage of our home support would be happy with.

    Argh.. too much info there!

Does singing a secretarian song make you a bad person?

Does singing a death metal song make you a killer?

Well I don't really think many Celtic songs are secterian, although people have different oppinions on different songs. Like for example some think Fields of Athenry and This Land is Your Land are, although I say if these songs are you can surely make a case for Oh Flower of Scotland being Sectarian.

But to answer your question I do sing Celtic songs that are pro Republican around the home or in the car. I choose not to when i'm with some friends of at Parkhead as I wouldn't want to get the club in trouble!

I do think though the club should release a book for next season which says which songs we may sing freely, along with what lyrics

It is a strange state of affairs when the fans need to be told what they are allowed to sing ! It's a bit like the tail wagging the dog

Yeh I guess as I'm sure about 90% of us know which songs we are/should be singing every week.

I just meant releasing a book just so that no-one can have any excuse if caught singing sectarian chants.

That being said I don't mean that just for our club, I think it should be the same for all the SPL clubs! And I have to mention being close to the away fans at Parkhead it frustrates me that the away fans seem to get away with singing sectarian chants and nothing about it being noticed. There seems to be an illusion that it's only the OF that have sectarian fans in Scotland!

I saw in a poll recently that catholics are subjected to more sectarian attacks than any other race in Scotland. I wouldn't be suprised if Celtic suffer the most sectarian singing against them by away fans either, as it seems almost every away team's support this season with the exception of Falkirk and St Mirren have chanted sectarian songs at Parkhead.

Sorry if i have come across as bigoted towards your point :)84:), but i think anyone that thinks these political songs are sectarian and are not part of Celtic culture are a little out of touch. Celtic have a political side and always will.

I think we should not sing about the IRA but pretty much everything else is fair game.

Yeh totally agree, I think all the songs sung by Celtic fans at games at the moment are ok as long as fans don't add the lyrics I.R.A. to it.

That is the only thing that I will never be able to defend if I hear at a Celtic game because you can fully understand why some folk get offended hearing their name. It's just asking for controversy singing their name at a football game irrspective of what your view on them is.

the trouble with singing IRA is that the name itself has been sullied by the british press and media.I do not recognise the IRA as the "provisional IRA" or the "real IRA",i only recognise the IRA as it was founded and the decent and honest people who fought for their country.I do take offence to the singing of Provisional songs under the name IRA,but songs of the old brigade,Sean South and James Connolly fill me with pride, and always will.

No, sectarian songs are an embarrassment. I have no feelings towards Ireland at all. I support Celtic, a Scottish club from Glasgow, purely for football reasons. The way it should be.

So only Glaswegians should support Celtic and only if you like the way Celtic play?

    That's not what he said.

I'm not from Glasgow, but support Celtic. Mainly because my uncle took me to CP for the games and all my family supported them.

I'd imagine it's much the same for everyone, you support the team your family supports.
