NO, i sing irish rebel songs.
a reporter or a scottish MP doesn't know the difference between secterian songs and songs of freedom.

it's okay to go bomb iraq but it isn't okay for these people to defend themselves i suppose?????????????

i enjoy my rebel music, but the IRA and irish rebels are not the reason i support celtic. i support celtic because i'm from ireland, the place celtic originated and have and have always had irish connections, well before the existance of the IRA.

at the ground we should leave out IRA songs.

we could start hearing songs like

    wild rover
    whiskey in the jar
    irish rover

songs like that could really get the crowd going.

How can you explain that when we got our great reputation during an era when singing these songs was widely accepted?

qft. Sectarian would be singing about protestants or loyalists not fighting for freedom. Just like national anthems and songs such at international matches. Like the Marine Corps song sung by fans of the US.

    Exactly m8 good post!!

I sing Irish Rebel songs before the games and in the pub before and after games and would like to sing them in the ground however they are classed as sectarian songs when they are just irish freedom songs!!:celt_2: :celt_2: TiocFaidh Ar la

Maybe so but the place for its is not in a football ground in Scotland. It may be non-contentious in most of Ireland but the Irish conflict stuff is badly out of place and creates strife and division in Scotland. Of course its going to be divisive and anger most British people in Britain to hear open singing in part of Britain about fighting the British. That would be true of any country. It should be easy to understand how weird it seems to many Scots for Irish guys to come over to Britain to sing songs about Ireland fighting Britain.

well mate they shouldnt have to sing songs about freedom. They should have freedom. Blame your own government not the people fighting for freedom which you enjoy.

I am not saying the songs or their sentiments are wrong (apart from a few really bad ones which seem to enjoy violence) and I would never defend Britain's dire historical record when it comes to Ireland. You would probably find my views on Ireland are generally similar to yours, its just the venue for expressing them thats the problem. All I am saying is there is a time and a place for everything. There is nowhere in the world except northern Ireland that is a worse spot to sing political songs of he Irish conflict (green or orange) than Scotland. Anyone for the 4th of July party in Bagdad?

A classic. But alas I think it could be sectarian. Funny though.
