4231 is the fashionable formation throughout Europe now, it's a formation that I tink we'll need to play in Europe to match up.

Back 4 with width from full backs.

Two centralized mids covering full backs and wandering centre halves. In essence it provides us with 6 ball winners on the park.

3 attack minded midfielders, anyone can play off the striker and that also gives us 5 players in the middle of the park to help control and press the ball without giving up too much space.

One striker, again supported by over-lapping midfielders and can give us 3-4 in the box when full backs are putting crosses in.

It's rigid enough for Europe but can also be expansive enough to adapt in game.

I would say it's useless in the league. Simply no requirement to play one up top but in order to get the player proficient with the tactic, we must persist with it. Repetition is the key to learning.

In most leagues you could probably adopt a European style away from home but that just doesn't apply in Scotland, it's the same * home and away. Ther emay be the odd exception with the likes of Aberdeen and Dundee Utd who are also adopting more European style tactics.

Fair play to them for giving it a go, they might take a battering but we all get entertained and they all learn to play a better way.

I would maybe have taken off an attacker at 2-1 for Kayal or Bitton. Easy to say in hindsight though.

Should have got another midfielder on earlier.

Kept Soriano out of the game, shame the guy is brilliant and scored a screamer of a freekick.

Also kept Kampl quite second half.

His subs tonight were bazarre i think, we were screaming for kayal or even biton to come on at 2 - 1 and started throwing strikers and wingers on, i understand scepovic was probably tired though but bringing another midfielder on wouldve been more urgent and made more sense.

At the weekend he should swap things up a bit, maybe play a 3-5-2

    Gordon
    Denayer Ambrose Van Dijk
    Wakaso Brown Kayal Tonev
    Stokes
    Scepovic Guidetti

He seriously needs to work on the players passing, composure under pressure & needless giving away of silly FKs in dangerous areas because at times we look hopeless in possession!!

A lot of things that worried me were evident again tonight. Good start, quickly seemed to lose our energy and too many players ended up far up the park and we were seriously short at the back.

Full backs are being left horribly exposed time and time again.

Scepovic was dead on his feet, it's his 2nd game of the season and he was *. What would you rather he done? Because Scepovic needed to come off.

I think I said all of these things tonight. I have been a defiant backer of Deila and haven't said a single bad word about him since his appointment... It's weird because tonight is probably been our best European performance this season in my opinion but it's been the game that's made me really question him.

I really don't see how he can defend those substitutions tonight... very questionable.

He's making it difficult for me to support him, at times.

Bringing on Tonev and Stokes was stupid when we were trying to hold on to a win/draw. Biton or Kayal should have started, or at least been subbed on at the 60 min mark.

He's like Strachan but the opposite. Never seems to change tactics in a game, only those tactics are wide open compared to Strachan's which were defensive and more solid.

He didn't want Salzburg to get the confidence of knowing we was settling for a point by bringing on Kayal or Bitton I see nothing wrong with his subs tonight they were like for like it's not like he went gung-ho and took defenders off for Stokes and Tonev

Don't get me wrong am chuffed with the score just feel we were lethargic at times out there tonight

Don't know if it was hot out there or what that would have contributed
