He‘s always been 4th choice really and probably soon be 5th behind Iwata. Just not near the level of Mooy, Hatate and O’Reilly.

Didn't play great but O'Riley hasn't for a lot of this season.

Wouldn't be too reactionary. Then again, it's celtic.

Aye he was dire today. Hatate and O’Riley came on and the difference was ridiculous.

Always good for a goal from distance but he just doesn’t offer enough.

Deserved his start. Struggled a bit with St Mirrens energy. Not a good day for him but he's a good player to have around.

I think the problem is that both him and Mooy don't have a lot of pace, and thus- it doesn't work. But we probably won't see a Turnbull-Hatate CM pairing.

I know you rate him highly and I also would love to see him succeeding here, but I can't see it happening within Ange's vision for Celtic.
I'd be delighted to be proven wrong and hopefully he's gonna get couple more chances this season (not forced by other player's injuries)

I think he confirmed what Ange already knew, good player but never a starter.

Struggled in the first half but picked it up in the second. Good option to have but probably more suited to coming on rather than starting.

He’s a good player, very skilful and has an eye for goal.

Problem is he needs to be playing at the top of his game week in and week out. Don’t think he can do that here.

Don’t think he is quick enough and doesn’t suit our system.

he would flourish in another side where he has a free role in the middle but he won’t get that here unfortunately.

The problem for him is that he isn't a starter and when he gets a chance like today, he has to take it..

He's a good option but that'll be him back to coming off the bench..

Might not even be that soon if Ange keeps recruiting at the same level.

O’Reilly still added a lot though, his pressing and defensive side is far better than Turnbulls. No doubting Turnbulls ability in the final 3rd but he’s not a player that will battle in the middle of the pitch.

He does best when coming on for 30min cameos when we’re already winning.

It’s harsh for him to have as much pressure on him as he did tonight.

Probably trying too hard, knowing that he’s * if he’s not outstanding.

Hatate has been great this season, but is prone to a stinker as well, which isn’t mentioned a lot. Makes a lot of bizarre decisions for a professional player at times, then the next minute looks like the second coming of Iniesta.

There’s definitely a place in this squad for Turnbull. If he wants to be a guaranteed starter, he could be in trouble.

His problem at the minute is he needs regular starts to really get his match sharpness up, but he isn't playing well enough to warrant starting ahead of others. He's still a good option off the bench against tiring teams though.

If we can keep him I absolutely would, but he will also need to accept he appears to be lacking a certain level of mobility/agility to his physical game which really slows our game down horribly so can't be a regular starter at all.

It's a part of his game that is going to seriously hinder his career outside of Celtic if he wants to move

Too slow. Not dynamic enough. I can't see him being a regular starter next season.

Agreed - current contract status I’d suggest gone in summer.

Has that rare ability to bin goals from distance. I really like him tbh but if 3-4m comes in he’s gone

It’s worth mentioning the nature of our squad is that it’s very competitive and we’re constantly bringing in quality platters.

If £3m or so comes in for Turnbull I’d be taking it. I think he’ll be a good player somewhere but I’m not convinced it will be here.

Felt this was a big, big day for him. Didn't take his chance and can't see him getting another start for a long time.

He's always been a bit of a slow mover, but it was disappointing how easily he was dispossessed several times today. At times made St Mirren's midfield look like a Europe League team because of how sluggish he was in possession. Wasn't the only one of course. Felt Mooy at times did similar, but at the very least he added some positives to the game. Didn't feel Turnbull really did that at all.

Said it in the match thread, but you really want the tempo of the game to have already been set before Turnbull comes on. We want to have tired the opposition out and feeling as though they can't be arsed closing us down as much. That's when he can utilise the space better.

Bad day for him, but he'll continue to get sub appearances.
