So Moyes comes out today and basically says he would take the job if sufficiently backed. The board must be * it :smiley-laughing002:

I would take him in a heartbeat. People moaning about him being a mid table PL manager is weird to me it's not like there is anyone else better available and quite honestly we probably couldn't bring any current PL manager here as the money down there is massive.

And that's exactly why he wouldn't get it. What is 'sufficiently backed'? How much does that entail: £15m, £20m, £30m?

Also, I'm not sure Id trust him with that much money. I mean he's high profile and the best down south we could get but he's very much in the mold of old fashioned British managerial mentality.

Nobody would have been able to do a good job at United with the team they had, Fergie got out whilst it sinking leaving a bunch of highly paid players way past their best and a load of so-so players.

It's actually amazing how much he won the league by with those players.

As for moyes? I'd take him, he'd be worth it comercially aswel as keeping us solid enough to actually qualify to the champions league.

Exactly this. He'd have tactics and a * plan for Europe, which is better than what we currently have !
No boring, grinding out results in domestic games too.

Way I see it. With Moyes in charge, we'd all fee a lot better about Europe, and sweeping teams aside at home.

Too right. He's not the type of manager who never bothered watching there clip of why they played so bad as "it was a one off and wouldn't happen again" then gets knocked out of Europe. Total *. Bring in moyes.

I would certainly be fighting the urge to if he was appointed.

That would be between Moyes and the board mate, I imagine he has his own figure in mind. For me that will be the major sticking point. He's a very rich man already, so I doubt his salary would be too much of an issue. He'll want to rebuild his reputation though, and he'll know that doing that is entirely dependent on how we perform in Europe. Looking at the current squad, I don't think we're far away in terms of players.

I don't agree with the old fashioned British mentality view. I've read a few articles on his time at Everton that suggest just the opposite - heavily involved with a particular attention to detail etc. Personally I think he's about as sure a thing as you can get in management in terms of making us successful again.

Hmmmm. Didn't watch Everton much then? Grinding out results was what they did.
He's already been eclipsed by Martinez imho in terms of football played and results against bigger budget teams.
Moyes record at both was very poor.

Who are the big teams now? Martinez has a better team with them striking lucky on the young players like Stones and Barkley coming through, and Lukaku coming in has made a massive impact there.

Doesn't Martinez have an awful record against 'bigger' teams?

He's been getting away with it for ages. Getting found out now.

I said teams with bigger budgets.
Although his record against Arsenal, City, Chelsea, Man Utd and Liverpool is * terrible.
He never won away at any of them. And i think he only won 6% or something stupid against them.

Then surely it's up to the manager spending the money to find a Lukaku? Why didn't Moyes?
Moyes wasted a lot of big money. A lot.

    £8.6m on Andy Johnson
    £11.25m on Yakubu
    £8.9m on Bilyaletdinov
    £5.9m James Beattie

    All * gash.

    His transfer spends at Everton;
    02/03 £10.3m
    03/04 £7.6m
    04/05 £8.9m
    05/06 £24.4m
    06/07 £16.6m
    07/08 £25.0m
    08/09 £18.8m
    09/10 £17.5m
    10/11 £1.3m
    11/12 £5.4m
    12/13 £16.24

    At Man Utd;
    13/14 £58.5m

    Sociedad
    15/16 £18.83m

Hardly pennies. People make out he had no money to spend. He had plenty. He spent more than Arsenal some seasons.

I just don't like this picture that gets painted of him as being hard done by at Man Utd or working on a shoestring budget at Everton with * players - not the case at all.

I think he is a good manager, and probably better than Deila at this present time but he is not Alex Ferguson, Matt Busby or Jock.
If he was he wouldn't be unemployed again.

Moyes signed him from Everton because no one else would, you're making yourself look stupid here.

Mata and Fellaini were panic buys. Plain and simple. Man U fans were crying out for him to spend some money to improve the team - he made it worse.

Lets keep things in perspective here. His signing record at Everton wasn't perfect, but it was * good (infinitely better than ours over the last 2 seasons). The money he spent at Man Utd his trivial stuff compared to LVG in recent years for pretty similar results. It's not the case that he was working with * players at Everton, he was working with very good players because he brought them to the club. Cahill, Jagielka, Baines, Lescott, Pienar, Arteta, Coleman, Gravesen etc).

He's not Ferguson, Stein or Busby, but he's a big step up for us imo.
