how much is he on a week there and how much did we offer him?

 

I'm not bitter he went to Bristol City, never wanted him in the first place. He's not a good keeper and is 39 years old. What would we do with him, play him for a year and then ask him to be coach? Would of been a total waste and we now see him continuing to struggle. Lennon dodged a bullet, as he did with Bullard and Campbell as well.

david james is a class goalkeeper. He 39 .. as u said , and still englands number 1. That sums it up. Besides goalkeepers have a long shelf life , look at van der sar still playing for united , neville southall (back in the day), brad friedel still at villa. All veterans and top top keepers.

 

He actually wasn't England's number 1 to start the world cup. It fell to him after Green's fuckup. England was a load of balls at the WC with him in goal and he is clearly past his prime. The guys you compare James to is a joke, he's not even in the same class as Van der Sar.

i wasnt comparing him to van der sar or the rest. i was just stating .. that keepers dont need the energy levels as much as outfield players so they have a prolonged career as professional footballers.

Capello didnt have to take james to the wc btw .. there was robinson , carson etc aswell that he coulda choose instead.

 

aye but always better to have a younger guy who will last more than 1/2 seasons

 

I'm not a big fan of James, but that's more my point. I don't think it's wise to bring guys in on big wages knowing it's merely temporary. Especially for a position such as GK or any CB/LB/RB positions. I think you defense needs to be intact for a few years and gel well together. The attacking positions I suppose are easier to bring a world class guy in for a year to help out, but overall, I don't like bringing in guys that are extremely old and only here for a year or two.

 

we will see the manner of the goals we let in on the football league show in bout 10 mins or so
