The bbc darts is * *, watching the Sky one is like watching Celtic V Barcelona and then the bbc is like Sevco V Montrose

 

Yeah I never watch it, just doesn't compare at all.

 

second rate darts at best .....

 

It's not that the quality is that much worse.. it just looks so dry and boring. The PDC is exciting.

 

I always have a chuckle about how naive and hypocritical people are regarding players at lakeside. They say its a terrible standard and then a year later the players in question move over to the PDC and suddenly become a 'top' player.
Anderson, Whitlock, King, Chisnall, Stompe, van Gerwen, van der Voort, Winstanley, Webster, Thornton, White, Farmer, Henderson and many others were all playing in the BDO and only Mark Webster managed to win the lakeside.

You've got to remember as well that 95% of the BDO players have full time jobs, yet are still every bit as good as everyone else. A good example of this was in the Grand Slam a few years back when bin man Martin Phillips defeated PDC world champion Adrian Lewis. The guy actually had to get days off work to appear on TV. The same year another second rate BDO player, Scott Waites, won the entire tournament incidentally, defeating first rate PDC player James Wade 16-10 in the final.

 

The BDO is a good standard it's just not very enjoyable for various reasons.

Edit: And you pretty much summed up why it's not as good as the PDC in your post, all of the good BDO players simply move to the PDC bar O'Shea, Adams, Kist and Waites.

No, my point was that no matter how many players leave there will always be someone just as good coming into replace them. When Barneveld, Anderson, King, Whitlock etc all left, no one had even heard of Kellett, Winstanley or Chisnall. Now that they've come and gone there will be plenty brilliant players coming through. Bunting, Harms, Stone, van de Pas, Norris, Barilli and de Graaf are all cracking players as well as the established players like Fitton, Green, O'Shea, Adams, Waites and Montgomery.

There will always be a strong BDO because of the quality of the county system in the UK, not to mention the brilliant youth players constantly coming through from Holland.

 

BDO will always be decent, you're right about that. However it will never be near as good as the PDC because all these good players leave to join the PDC. So just when you think the BDO might be catching up, they lose all their good players to the PDC.
Whitlock, Barneveld and Anderson are fantastic players. Winstanley and Chisnall are just average players.

 

Sky have not made darts better, the have put more money into it.
If your way of making darts better is so-called fans booing an whistling when a player is hitting a crucial double, getting the crowds * and singing * football chants and tables v stands crap then so be it but they have not made it better..

Bobby Georges son is exactly like him, looks a real character..

 

Winstanley and Chisnall are average? Dear *.What are you basing this judgement on? Chisnall has out performed every player in the PDC this year in the floor tournaments, finishing first in the rankings. Winstanley defeated Anderson on TV only a few months ago so how can Anderson be fantastic and Winstanley be average?

 

It reminds me of the English Premier League a bit. Due to the hype from
Sky the casual viewer believes it is the greatest in the world, yet when they play teams from other leagues in the champions league, we soon discover that isn't the whole truth. It's the exact same every year at the Grand Slam when the BDO players do just as well as everyone else, despite there only being around 6 of them to the 26 PDC players.

 

Sky have definitely made darts better in my opinion. It's very enjoyable and exiting to watch now in my personal opinion. You're allowed your opinion though so I'll leave it at that.

Winstanley is average because he's the biggest bottler I've ever seen on TV. He is a good player in fairness but he's not up there with Anderson, Barneveld, Lewis, Taylor and van Gerwen. Chisnall is a good player too but he's just not as good as the best players. He has the same ability as the likes of King and Thornton.

Just because Winstanley beat Anderson doesn't mean he's as good as him. Van Barneveld lost 3-0 to james Richardson in the World Championship 1st round. That doesn't mean Richardson is anywhere near as good as barneveld.

 

Thats what Sky are very good at doing and cant knock them for that, overall the PDC is most definatley a better crop of players at the minute but thats only been like that really since 2007, before that the BDO had the best crop and always have players coming through which the PDC still seem to be struggling at doing..

 

The PDC have the world's best dart players in their stable. There can be no disputing that.

 

Not just best players but best presenters, best commentators and better presentation and atmosphere.

I cant watch the one on BBC its just too boring.
