think Thompson has amazing considering he'a gone from * stockport to pretty much a main stay in our defense through lack of options an 18 year old and a stockport youth done alright i'm surprised he aint getting more praise if anything he deserves as much if not more then most the one of deserves an extended run in the team is him although Hooidveld still needs to play yet and Rogne does look promising and O'dea not doing bad either.

but still thompson derserves to be in he team more then most.

    Kyogo. A phenomenon

He (O'Dea) got a decent run of games at Reading, and did not do well despite a decent start. McManus, however, has gone to the same division and excelled in comparison.

Don't get me wrong - not a massive fan of either player, but i disagree with the highlighted part mate.

I think O'Dea is just keeping Hooiveld's place warm till the Dutchman is fit again. I'm happy enough with that.

I see O'Dea as a squad player.. There should be at least one top quality central defender in every team (Hooiveld is hopefully ours) with at least three others competing to partner him.. O'Dea is one of the guys who should be competing for a place , and should be at a level where he can come in and do the same job as the guy he's replaced.. I think it could well change in the summer if another defender is signed , leaving O'Dea (Maybe Loovens) as the most likely to move onto another club..

I think Darren O'Dea is a natural left back and would do well there for us

I've liked what I've seen from Rogne so far, know he's not played much, but think he will become a really good player for us. (Provided he can drag himself away from the PS3 for long enough)

I just can't see him ever being a regular 1st choice for us. The comparisons with McManus at the same age are all to recognisable, and now O'Dea has reached a critical juncture in his career where he will either have to be content in the knowledge that he is likely to be OK as cover for FB/CB role for us. Or he can move on & find his level elsewhere, where he can get regular game time.

Certainly O'Dea deserves credit for his recent performances. They have been good.
I think when you look at our center back situation I like the look of Rogne and Hooiveld although obviously they haven't played much yet. But with those 2 and Loovens and Thompson we may actually in those 5 players have the depth and quality we have so badly been lacking in center back. There is a doubt that maybe we still need to add in one commanding dominant physical type center back but we will see. Personally I am very hopefully Hooiveld will fill the dominant physical center back role for us a la Mjallby and well O'Dea who knows could get the other spot if he keeps playing very well. At the very least he is a very good back up to have in the squad.

dont rate him but credit where its due he has improved a bit in the last few games. I think though O'Dea is one of a long line of CBs that have been groomed young because they can pass the ball neatly (remember Brian O'Neill?) but are not really natural CBs. I think that is the wrong approach and we should look first and foremost for old style defensive dominance in our CBs.

Would rather have wee Rogne than him, to be fair. Plus, he's been awful since he got back from Reading, apart from few games. I don't think he has what it takes to cut it here. But no doubt he'll be Mowbray's first choice defender.

I don't rate O'Dea, since our defence is very weak, when Braafheid goes we could possibly try playing O'Dea left back reguarly - that way he can tuck in and provide extra cover in central defence if needed.

As I said, don't think he has what it takes to play CB regularly.

O'Dea has never done anything wrong for us, except 1 mistake in that game a few weeks ago and everyone wrote him off, only other time I remember him making a mistake was in pre-season. He's not Nesta but we won't get any much better for what we can afford.

    o'dea

I honestly believe if Darren O'dea plays at the back then we are in seroious trouble, this a boy who could not even get in the Reading squad, if thats the best that we can expect then we are in big trouble. Rogne was strolling through OF game in the short space of time he was on which was encouraging. I still think we need a leader with alot of experience at the back to help the young boys, someone to learn from. We have alot of very inexperienced centre backs at the club, and along with the goalkeeper i do think its the position that experience is crucial. Look at Weir at Rangers not the greatest player in the world and i know he is getting on but he knows the position like the back of his hand and his experience alone gets him through games hence Rangers have a very sound defence and it breaks my heart :31: lol.
