If he stays injury free (fast players always worry me as it feels like they're susceptible to hamstring injuries) he could easily win POTY.

Agreed, mental how many potential POTY we have just now. O'Riley, Hatate, Kyogo, Jota, Giakoumakis, McGregor and you also have Turnbull, Abada, CCV as also potentially staking a claim along woith them but maybe at a lesser level. One of the many reasons I think we will win the league this season, too many players at the top of their game

Maybe it's just me but I really don't see it with him. Sure he works like * but technically he's poor. Crossing and finishing arent good enough.

I'd have Abada ahead of him, allowing us to play Jota on the left, everytime.

Abada is a grafter too, obviously not at Maeda levels but id be willing to loose a bit of that especially domestically for the goals and assists Abada brings. Felt he was harshly dropped last season especially as he was bang in form, ripped huns and motherwell apart and was out team shortly after

He definitely needs to work on his finishing, but even Kyogo and Giakoumakis missed sitters last season. Even if you're not a big fan of him I'm sure you can see that having multiple options up top is a positive for us, and Ange is obviously a big fan of him.

For all Maeda's finishing is poor, his goals to minutes ratio is almost exactly the same as Abada's. Maeda averaged a goal every 220 minutes. Abada was a goal every 219.

I'd probably go with Jota and Abada as well, but I've no problems with Maeda starting. Both are massive for us.

Aye options up front are good and there's also good variety.
Can see why Ange likes Maeda and think he'll be 1 of 1st names on teamsheet in Europe but I just don't ever look at him and see player of the year contender.
I like what he gives us in terms of workrate but I'd rather we played a more technically gifted player as part of front 3. Think best front 3 and best balance we had last season was with Jota, Kyogo and Abada

That's interesting bout mins per goal between the 2. Think Maeda missed a lot of easy chances and they probably stick out more altho at least he's getting into the positions to miss. Strange thing is when watching his youtube highlights before he signed his finishing looked lethal

I think Maeda is still very underrated by many. His movement and instincts are as good as Abada's imo, and his link up play is better. He's not as good a finisher but still scores plenty, and his work rate is obviously ridiculous.

He starts every big match for me and I think he'll be one of our most important players this season.

Abada has been excellent but can be very inconsistent with his finishing as well..

It's either deadly or a bit of a mess. No realy in-between unlucky one's a lot of the time..

I'm another who would go with Jota/Abada, but the biggest difference for me is when they have a bad game.

When Abada is having a bad game, he does very, very little, if anything, all game. Its not been as much an issue after Christmas, but it does hinder us.

Whilst Maeda, even when playing poorly, still presses like mad, still running about at the 90 minute mark and still causing panic in the opposition defence.

Again, I'd probably go Jota/Abada if I had the choice, as it allows Jota to play in his natural position, but I understand why Ange goes for Maeda.

I prefer Jota on the left. No sure why Ange hasn't tried Maeda on the right as I think he'd be just as effective over there..

He's just ahead of Abada for me right now purely for what he brings to us off the ball. A nightmare with his pressing. Abada presses as well and quite well, but Maeda is on another level to most..

    Good option's to have..

    Still want another though..

I'd like to think with Johnston leaving we'll bring another winger in.

Love Maeda's pressing but commits to trying to nick the ball a bit too much. Wins some at key moments but also gets turned a bit too easily for it.

    Would still have Abada starting.

I think both suit certain games more.

I think we badly need a natural left winger and use maeda as back up

Based on today’s evidence we’ll be seeing them switching wings fairly often.

Crossing with the left poor, feel we could be a lot more of an attacking threat with a technically better player in his role.
