Shaun Maloney has provided an update on Daizen Maeda ahead of Celtic's game against Falkirk tomorrow evening.

The Japanese forward hasn't featured for his side since he scored a stoppage-time winner against Motherwell at the beginning of the month.

Amid issues with his lower back and hamstring, Maeda has been forced to watch on as Celtic lost to both Dundee and Hearts in the space of a week.

He could return for Falkirk's visit to Parkhead, though: "Daizen is in the squad and Martin [O'Neill] will make the call on him on Wednesday," said Maloney. "He’s fit enough to be in the squad, but I don’t know if he’s fit enough to be involved yet.

It’s whether he makes the bench or not. We aren’t sure ye

Give him 20 mins or so and get him ready for Sunday.

I wonder if Rodgers going will give him a bit of a lift. Been pretty clear to me that BR is an 'acquired taste' so to speak, with so many players wanting out the door.

Think there will be a few in the squad with a new lease of life, hopefully Daizen is one of them.

Could be doing with peak Daizen on Sunday, big time.

Ideally get him some minutes in the legs before Sunday but if he’s not ready then there’s no point taking any chances. He’s the type who you wouldn’t really worry about just throwing into a game like that anyway.

    Quote from Martin’s Interview

Daizen Maeda came back from injury tonight, but has Johnny Kenny staked a strong claim on Sunday?

He did really fine, he's learning the game. He took his goals like a proper centre-forward.

The physios told me Maeda could get 35 minutes. How they calculate 35 minutes, well there's things I've got to learn again. Listen, that's not against them. They're great. The physios are really good. But I said to them, I'd just rather go for 33 minutes!

To be fair I think Maeda's time at the club is up regardless of Rodgers. He's been here 4 years and served us well over the piece.

He had his best ever season in football under Rodger's management as well so.

Maybe, maybe not. The Rodgers who had us flying for the first half of last season is not the same Rodgers of recent times. Think the more Rodgers was getting * off the more likely it was people have wanted out.

He may well have wanted a move regardless but the fact multiple players wanted out makes me think Rodgers has a lot to do with it.

I obviously don't know, but I think it's likely that Daizen wanting to leave had nothing to do with Rodgers. I'd guess he feels like he's achieved enough with us, had the opportunity to increase his salary by a fair amount (great for his family), and wanted to test himself in a stronger league.

He comes on nice and fresh when they are getting tired and runs them ragged and bags a goal or two, lets hope so.
