Daizen Maeda

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by Callum McGregor, Dec 31, 2021.

  1. It’ll take Yang playing most games like he did tonight.

  2. He really needed it, last few games last season he missed a few big chances (Cup Final and Hun game identical ones) but he was * knackered by that point and flying back and forth from Japan, with his wife just giving birth. But he’s started this season missed a one on one and slipped for a one on one last weekend.

Another game or two of that it can get in a players head, fans start talking about transfer talk effecting him etc…

Goal settles it down. And just gets a rhythm started, if he follows it up midweek then he’ll be going into the form we seen last season. Form I don’t actually expect from him either, he was insane at one point last season, took every chance after he replaced Kyogo

  4. Coming from TeamTalk so probably *

Nottingham Forest, Fulham, and Brentford are all considering moves for Celtic’s dynamic forward Daizen Maeda, TEAMtalk understands, with the player’s stance now revealed.

The 27-year-old has been a key figure for Celtic since joining from Yokohama F. Marinos in January 2022. Known for his blistering pace, relentless work rate, and clinical finishing, he has made a significant contribution to the Hoops’ dominance in Scotland

Maeda, who plays as a left-winger or forward, notched 16 goals and 10 assists in the Scottish Premiership last season, showcasing his ability to thrive in high-pressing systems.

His performances in European competitions, including the Champions League, in which he scored four times last term, have further elevated his profile, drawing comparisons to other successful Asian exports, like Tottenham’s former skipper Son Heung-min.

TEAMtalk sources close to the player indicate that Maeda is “very open” to a Premier League switch, seeing it as a natural progression in his career

The allure of England’s top flight, with its global spotlight and competitive intensity, aligns perfectly with his ambitions. Having represented Japan at the 2022 World Cup – where he scored a memorable goal against Germany – Maeda is eager to test himself against elite defences week in, week out, ahead of the 2026 tournament.

However, any deal won’t be cheap, with Nott’m Forest, Fulham and Brentford all weighing up moves for the Celtic talisman…

TEAMtalk understands that Celtic are holding firm on a valuation of at least £25 million, reflecting Maeda’s contract until 2027 and his integral role under manager Brendan Rodgers.

This price tag could test the resolve of the interested parties: Nott’m Forest, seeking depth; Fulham, aiming to build on mid-table stability; and Brentford, renowned for shrewd recruitment of undervalued talents.

With just weeks remaining in the window, negotiations for Maeda could intensify rapidly.

If a bid materializes, it might spark a bidding war, but Celtic’s stance suggests they’re prepared to retain their star unless the offer is compelling.

For Maeda, a potential Premier League adventure beckons – potentially reshaping his trajectory and adding another layer of intrigue to this transfer saga.

  5. At this stage it'd need to be £30m.

  6. We need to hold him for another season given how underprepared we have been this window.

Will prob mean we have to take a lower fee next year but what good is the extra money now if it just sits in the bank

  7. Canny afford to lose him.

  8. Lose him and all * will break loose.

  9. With no obvious replacement to step into the two roles he can pay it would have to be MORE that £35Mil.

  10. That gives me the fear. We'd be * without him.

  11. TeamTalk punt more pish than me

    So wouldn’t worry

  12. This stage I’d not accept anything at all. Could be £500m. Makes no * difference how much we stick in our bank, we won’t use more than £2m odd of it to replace him.

If we were a normal club with transfers I would struggle to think what I think he’s worth to us, more than would be bid I’m certain of but he’s the one guy that feels like we just couldn’t get a replacement like him. Usually we can replace anyone in some way, but there’s been Henrik for obvious reasons and the two others for other reasons than matching that level of player just due to being physical anomalies there is Wanyama then it would be Daizen.

If tonight and next week goes majorly wrong though, he will be sold.

A think he will go regardless tbh he has plenty irons in fire.

  13. Think if we were willing to sell him regardless he’d already have been sold.

He’s definitely seeing the options though, new contract talk has disappeared completely.

If he stays like I think, and doesn’t sign another deal, then I don’t think he’ll be here beyond the Jan window though. Last fee talked for any interest in him was £15m-£17m though. We’d go * ballistic about that. Might actually tip the fans over the edge.

  14. Think it will be significantly more if you have 3plus teams looking at him. Might be like VVD in 2015 get us through the qualification matches then yer free to go, got a feeling daizen and trusty leave before deadline.

  15. Trusty you might be right, JSP loan would make more sense if that’s the case.

Maeda I can’t see us letting it unless we don’t qualify though. Like we did with Kyogo last summer.

  16. Only thing though is Rodgers said he wants 5/6 centre half options. If trusty does leave who have we got coming in? Not seen anything solid rumour wise. And for the quality of player we’d need to replace trusty that’s worrying.

  17. Just read an interview he done about Murray and he said need 5 for the season and amount of games we play. Don’t think if he knew he was going he would be that specific with it.

  18. I worry we're stuck in the Isak chain with Maeda

As soon Isak goes to Liverpool, Newcastle will buy Wissa from Brentford, and then Brentford come for Maeda

  19. Isak’s statement has apparently * Newcastle off enough the noise is they’re not selling at all regardless.

    * off trillionaires don’t really give a * how much he’s worth to be fair.
