Daizen Maeda

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by Callum McGregor, Dec 31, 2021.

  1. See to be fair to him, he’s made clear that he wants to play as a centre forward and, rather than the club taking that on board and signing a couple of decent wingers, he’s having to watch us persevere with Adam * Idah. I’d be raging too.

  2. His wife had a wean back in Japan at the end of last season, think he might even have missed the birth. Don't know if she's back in Scotland yet................his heid will be up his * just now

  3. Hearing on several Celtic podcasts that news in Japan report on that Maeda is preparing for Celtic departure. Surprised that ive not seen anything about it here.

Would be * madness selling him

  4. Celtic may move to acquire Kobe's Miyashiro in preparation for Maeda Daizen's departure.

  5. I think he's away.

  7. He came into the game later on but aye he’s not been the same for a wee while now, probably needing a fresh challenge away so can’t blame him for that. We will miss him massively in the big games.

  8. Wouldn’t be surprised. Imagine having to play in a position you don’t enjoy as much, to accommodate a big donkey…and your other attacker is one of old man Forrest or Yang. He must be * raging.

Strangely though, as a footballer, I don’t think he would be incredibly difficult to replace if we were a serious club. He had an unbelievable purple patch last season but I can’t see him replicating it. And we all know his limitations.

What we wouldn’t be able to replace is his industry.

  9. No wonder he wants away. Imagine having fun, playing CL football and scoring 32 goals alongside Jota and Kuhn, and then you sell Kuhn and you have to play with players at 30% capacity of said players.

  10. More likely we’ve told him he can go after the qualifiers hence his performance, though I’ve never doubted his professionalism before so makes you wonder.

  11. If we were a serious club, this would arguably be the right time to sell him at this age for maximum return. But like with Kuhn, I have zero belief in us to be able to replace him quickly and with the adequate quality required.

  12. Has he made that clear? I thought he said in the past he preferred playing out wide?

I do think he's much more effective through the middle though.

  13. On top of the fact he's been shifted back out wide when clearly he's at his best as a striker

  14. Yeah. Criminal by the club tbh.

Players are as demanding of ambitious signings as the fans are. If not more. That is something that most forget to talk about.

Say you get £27m for him, £17m for Khun, £5m from other sales and the frimpong cash that's £50m plus and we have spent £3m.

  15. If we get anywhere near top dollar, absolutely sell.
Will never be worth more than today.
Hope no one has been scouting him last couple of games!

Problem is (as always), if the cash rots in the bank then it's pointless.

  16. If him and Kuhn go and we hit the last week of the window needing to replace both it will be an epic failure of transfer policy.

  17. Tbf, he was unlucky with his 2nd half effort, either side and its in.. then a slip away from a goal..

Honestly think selling him in this window is madness, given how slow we do business.

There's already much to get done.

  18. We'd also be needing to replace both whilst still requiring 3 more attackers minimum.

At that point we'd just be replacing numbers from losing players otherwise. Rather than actually improving the squad.

  19. Not this year. He signed an extension this summer.
