Daizen Maeda

Had a rotten end to last season. Miles off it during pre-season and he’s been a man down the last two games.

Needs to sort it out.

 

Last couple of games he's been clean through and * it..

Was very poor today..

Should be playing up top mind and with a more fluent front 3..

 

Is it back to the Maeda of old? I mentioned in another thread, we definitely can’t depend on his contributions of last season, it was a complete outlier.

 

I think he'll be back to his best again. Probably needs to go up top for a few games first..

 

Definitely needs to be playing through the middle for me. Can still go out wide as and when required but he's shown he's better as a striker.

New wingers either side of him, with Jota coming back aswell and I'd be happy with that.

 

Two new wingers in and a new striker required.

I can see one winger being permanent and one on loan. But the Idah experiment is over, Maeda is far superior as a center forward.

As poor as he's been in the opening two games.

 

He's playing as if he's got one foot out the door.

That's the way I see it too. His mind is elsewhere.

 

Maybe he just needs more game time to get back in the groove, hopefully it’s that and not he wants away.

 

Hopefully hes not wanting to leave. I think if he had said it we would have probably have sold him now as thats one thing the board cant be accused of not getting done quickly

 

Thing is KT and he naturally find the same space..

Think it will be 2 x wingers that come in and Daizen reverts to ST..

Or, we punt him.. which would be very risky

 

He is very much playing like someone that will be away.

 

Brentford serious contenders for him once Wissa moves lads.

 

But this is the problem, we won't spend it. Honestly this window has proved it's pointless selling anyone, we're not even replacing the players that leave, let alone improving the squad as a whole.

For what its worth, if we spent all of it (and the Kuhn money first) I think you've got a point.

 

He's completely unique. If he leaves we are *. He has severe limitations, but more than makes up for it with his relentless endeavour. The amount of times he was the game changer last season.

We cannot lose Kyogo, Kuhn and Maeda from the team that started last season. We just can't. Jota is likely not back until the last third of the season.

 

Mate. We can play Forrest or Yang on the left until Jota is back, he might be ahead of schedule. Sign two wingers, one right, one left. We are not buying three wingers with Jota coming back.

Much as I like and appreciate Maeda, and what he has done for us over the years, and it's considerable, he frustrates the * out of me with his lack of composure and technical skills in front of goal, in one on ones.

I also have a sneaky feeling that he is peeved at Brendan for outing him from the striker position.

 

I hate to say it, but I think we shouldn't expect any real contribution from Jota this season. Will probably be Feb or March by the time he's fit to play. And considering how little football he's played the last few years, I think it will be next season before he's got his sharpness back and is fully up to speed. Think we'll see a deadline day season long loan for a good standard left winger, probably from an EPL team.
