Do we call him Daizen like Kyogo or Maeda like Naka?

I think we're meant to be calling Kyogo - Furuhashi. But everyone just started to call him Kyogo for convenience and it stuck.

    Could be wrong though

I could be wrong here but I'm sure Asian footballer's normally always put their 1st name on the back of their tops

Naka didn't. Maybe it depends on the country or it could be just personal preference.

Usually Japanese players put their surnames on their shirts, but when they play overseas they probably just put the easiest one to pronounce in English.
He probably doesn’t want everyone calling him “Made-ah”, or “My-da”.
Daizen will be easier to read and pronounce in English.

It’s “Mah-eh-da”. Sounds and reads very similar to My-da or Made-ah, but the most subtle difference in pronunciation can change the whole meaning of a word in Japanese.

Not sure if that’s the reason he’s using Daizen, but he uses Maeda in the J-League and when he plays for Japan.

I know Kyogo is mostly called Furuhashi in Japan, they wouldn’t call him by just his first name.

Cheers! I can understand the subtleties. We've butchered Kyogo's name with Kee-o-go or Ky-o-go the most common variations on it, when I think its more Kyo-go. So no doubt we'll all do the same with Maeda :giggle1:

Yeah, it’s supposed to be Kyo-go.
Can’t really go wrong with Daizen though, surely! :giggle1:

Hatate (Ha-ta-tay) should be straight forward, maybe his first name might get pronounced like the English name, Leo, instead of Reo (Ray-oh)

It would be more like YO-skay, the YO is slightly extended, kinda like Yo-o-skay.

I reckon when he learns that nobody else is running as fast as him, he’s gonna get a lot more assists :giggle1:

Is it not traditionally thatthe surname goes first on Japanese names but over time a lot of families have adopted the western version of surname last?
