Can goalscoring be your only form of consistency though?

Look at the stats between Neymar and Ronaldo who play in the same areas.

Per game Neymar makes on average 20 more passes, he creates 3x the chances, does 4x the crosses, 6x more dribbling, 4x the long passing, is fouled 3x more, he does more tackling, intercepting and is also dribbled past less than Ronaldo, he is offside less than Ronaldo.

Only things Ronaldo does better than Neymar is he hits double the shots and wins double the headers.

Comes down to is it better to have significantly worse allround play and score 15 goals per season more or significantly better allround play and score 15 less.

That's like saying izzy is better than terney because he whips in 10 more crosses. Goals and assists and mistake leafing to a goal are the deciding factor. Neymar can cross 400 times more, if he's not scored and created as many he isn't as good. You don't win football games without goals.

Not really it wouldn't just come down to crosses. If Izzy was intercepting more, tackling more, fouling less, being fouled more, crossing more, on the ball more, creating more but Tierney was scoring 5 goals a season and Izaguirre wasn't scoring any.

This season and last season Ronaldo scored 26 more than Neymar, Neymar has assisted 20 more, Ronaldo's scored 4 more penalties so only 22 from open play. So their goal and assist output is only 2 apart. But their overall team play is miles apart.

It's not like Ronaldo scores more as he is such a good finisher and takes chances or has a great shot thats always on target either. He hits on average about 70-100 shots more per season than any other player. So since he's been at Real Madrid he'* easy 500+ shots more than anyone else playing football.

This season in comparison to Messi...

    Ronaldo 105 shots 12 goals
    Messi 81 shots 22 goals

Penalties aside Messi is scoring a goal every 4 shots, Ronaldo a goal every 11 shots.

The last 5 years for example, Ronaldo has probably hit about 700 shots more than Suarez. Mental amounts of shooting more than other players.

A good comparison would be more like Rogic and Commons. If Commons had played in Rogics position last season and this season instead, it's very likely he'd have scored a lot more goals than Rogic, probably even assisted more too but Commons worsens the team overall where as Rogic adds far more to the team, bringing up the standards of other players rather than hampering others in favour of himself.

It's only in his later years that he's become more one dimensional, he was also a chance creator before and his overall career wipes the floor with Brazilian Ronaldo's.

Not really later years, from the age of about 25. He last done good wing play when at Man Utd. At Man Utd he developed from promising winger to world class winger to world class winger who was scoring a great amount of goals(25-40 a season), he then quickly decended into average winger who scored even more goal to below average winger who scored even more to poor winger who scored even more to non existant wide player who scores for fun which he's been for about 5 years now.

This season he is the NINETYETH (90th) best dribbler in the Spanish League averaging the 63rd most crosses, creating the 53rd most chances per game. He hasn't played a single ball through a defence onto a striker.

Thats diabolical play from a guy who is well capable of topping those categories. Neymar tops those 4 categories, top dribbler, crosser, creator and most through balls. No reason why Ronaldo shouldnt be atleast top 5 in each. The crossing is shocking considering who he plays up front with Benzema/Morata and Bale guys who are good in the air who would like a lot of crosses to come in to them from the left but he only attempts 1 cross every 3 games.

Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima, oh how does that name bring back some memories. I'm lucky enough to have seen him in his peak. terrific, explosive and dangerous. Any time he accaccelerated it felt like he was going back in time, he was that quick. it was painful to watch his career going downhill after all the injuries and wrong decisions he took.

Having said that, Cristiano Ronaldo has had the better career and also is the better player. His work ethic is out of this world. The only thing better than that is his scoring record.

There's one or two categories where Cristiano Ronaldo * up otherwise he could be the best ever.

79 assists last 5 years, not bad for a winger who supposedly doesn't create....

Massive disservice there to a guy who managed 15 goals at World Cups in such an alleged short time.

Did it in multiple leagues for years before injuries and then came back to boss the 2002 World Cup and win another Player of the Year award.

I used to post on here that I rated Ronaldo de Lima more highly than Cristiano Ronaldo, but his career took more than one big decline (not always his fault, sometimes was), therefore Cristiano's longevity wins it for him.

If Ronaldo de Lima had stayed injury free and had taken better care of himself, I reckon he'd be regarded almost as highly as Messi.

    I honestly can't believe what I'm reading :giggle1:

If you watch 90 minutes of Neymar and 90 minutes of Cristiano Ronaldo, and judge it impartially as if you're watching 11v11 down the local park, it would be blatantly obvious who the better player is.

Forget the reputation. Forget the individual awards. If you actually watch the guy week in week out he really isn't that effective as ridiculous as it may sound. It's Pepe, Modric and Kroos who deserve the Balon D'or for carrying the *

Why are we even comparing these two footballers? Is it because they have the same name? Speak the same language? It's not even close. It's a disgrace that this poll exists let alone it be a close call
    It's a * joke

    Its easily the Brazilian.

At their absolute peaks the gap toothed goal scoring machine wins hands down.

CR7 has stopped being entertaining and is overrated - he does not contribute enough outside of scoring and has consistently failed to impress me when i have seen him.

The brazilian Ronaldo was the greatest player of his era - unquestionably so and was great to watch a true genius.

CR7 is only maybe the 2nd greatest player of his but thats very debatable Neymar and Suarez are like cr7 part of the pack chasing messi.

The problem with Cristiano is because he has that dirty side to him on the pitch and he's a bit of a * of off it so some people judge him on that and refuse to give him credit. Football has evolved Ronaldo is what evolved football looks like, he is one the best ever I don't understand how anyone could argue otherwise. I don't like the guy but as player he is sublime to watch at times.

Both world class talents but I just think the Brazilian Ronaldo was better to watch. Find Cristiano and Neymar to be similar petulant wanks and don't like to watch them play.

Wait. Are there folk here seriously suggesting Neymar is a better player than Cristiano Ronaldo or am I picking the sarcy posts up wrong?

Don't be * stupid - the 2 best players in the world by some distance are Messi and Ronaldo and that is almost been without question for several years.
