Maybe we could do with another option in nets but I still believe Gordon's a good keeper and will be there when it matters over the season.

Not a fan but we were spoilt with Forster and Boruc

Think he's an excellent goalkeeper. Took pelters for goal vs Astana but I'm a firm believer defence was 99.9% at fault.

Put it this way - if a attacker has a free header on edge of 6-yard, your defence (especially the zonal 3) have cocked up something serious.

Was a no-win for him really. If he stood still *nobody* would've attacked the ball and it would've been a free header. If he came, at least he tried to take responsibility and challenge the ball.

Of course it was the wrong decision in the end, but the blame is squarely with the zonal defenders who's entire, specific job is to clear their lines on the 6-yard, and Gordon's hand was forced.

Folk are ignoring the defenders responsibility though and just blaming him. You are right, it wasn't solely his fault, hence why he went mental at them after it went in.

He saved the defence (Ambrose) again a couple of times throughout the game so made up for it somewhat.

Certainly wasn't all his fault but apportioning .1% is a bit far :56: He was at least as much to blame as O'Connell who should have done much better.

The issue is this happens regularly in Europe then gets brushed under the carpet. If it were Rab Douglas the Celtic fans would be sticking pins in voodoo dolls to stop him playing the next game.

For me it comes to down to his ability to keep the ball outta the net. You can argue his kicking isn't the best and he doesn't command his box as well as he should, but for the most part he pulls off some good to great saves routinely and has kept us in alot of games. People got on him about the Malmo away leg, but if not for 3-4 miraculous saves Ronny may have gotten sacked then and there. He might not be the best keeper we could have but I think for the goals we a trying to acheive (League, Cup(s), CL qualification) Gordon will be more than good enough to backstop us to success.

Think Gordan is a good keeper,we should be looking at a younger goalkeeper though to come in and fight for first team place, doesnt look like Fasan will get a chance here.Would love to find another Boruc or Forster

Getting sick of the sight of him now, his prickish posh voice (Same goes for Armstrong), his lanky streak of pishness, his flappy bird/superman impressions at opposition set pieces, his failure it seems to keep a clean sheet, his kicking, his commanding of his area.

I'm starting to now take quite a disliking to him as he gives off the impression he feels he's invincible as our No.1 GK. I'm hoping Brendan is thinking very differently.

Even although most will say he had no chance with Barca's first two goals yesterday, the fact is those were the exact type of shots top GKs such as Boruc or Forster would have made for us, Gordon just isn't making those saves regularly enough for me.

You can't honestly expect a club on our budget to afford a keeper like Forster or Boruc (as he was then).

It was a different time when we had Boruc, we can't compete at that financial level anymore. Forster was a fantastic spot from Lenny when he was just a kid with potential; we can't expect to win a watch with every young signing.

No, Gordon isn't in the same class as those two but he's far better than any other keeper we've had since Bonner. Would you rather have Douglas, or Gould, or Zaluska, or (Gordon) Marshall...?

Agreed. I remember many times looking at Gordon in a cauldron of noise at CP and thought to myself, that * voice is grating on me. :smiley-laughing002:

I'd argue Zaluska wasn't any worse than Gordon has been over the last 18 months or so for us since the Inter 3-3 game.

Maybe if we sent him to a voice coach it would make him a better GK :50:

His voice when doing the pre match conference before Astana game during the week I find just goes right through me. Don't know what it is about it but I can't be the only one, possibly the way he enunciates every word he says.
