Gordon better than Boruc - I've heard it all now.

I thought lennons comment about prefering his keeper to keep it out the net was doing bain a massive disservice. Not only is he far better with the ball than Gordon, he's a far better goalkeeper.

Hopefully bain is back in for the weekend, but this was my fear with lennon coming in.

 

I don't think he intended to have a pop at Bain. Think it was more to do with a pop at Rodgers style of the keepers under no circumstances hoofing it to * (even when it really does call for it).

 

I'd have agreed if he then picked bain in the next game, however with him coming out and saying that and then picking Craig Gordon and also bigging up his chances of being number 1 this season makes me worried.

The tie was quite clearly over, and I think we would all agree that players should (and were) rested for this one, but I don't really see the point in chopping and changing keepers unless he genuinely thinks Gordon has a chance at becoming number 1 again this season, which worries me.

Friendlies, behind closed door bounce games and arguably league Cup games are for giving your number 2 minutes imo, not important European qualifiers.

 

If Bain can’t handle competition then he’s not the keeper for us.

 

I can see where you are coming from here but for me he has put Gordon in the "already over" tie, speaking nice of the him just being decent and also giving him some game time as and when an opportunity like this arises. I can't see him seriously making Gordon no 1 again (I do like Gordon though)

 

I don't think it's a case of bain not being able to handle competition, I just thought lennys comments were a bit * and implied bain only plays cause he's good on the ball and isn't capable of keeping it out.

In reality bain came in back in January, and for the most part has been absolutely excellent both in terms of distribution and keeping the ball out the net, he regularly makes some cracking saves alot of which go unnoticed imo.

For me there's no longer one aspect where Craig Gordon is superior to Scott Bain, and I would have big concerns if lenny genuinely believes Gordon can and should be our number 1.

 

Fingers crossed mate, up untill last season I was a big fan of Gordon but he's way over the hill now and should be nowhere near being our number 1 again.

 

Rodgers left 18 games ago. Bains played 17 and I cant think of a a single performance that backs up any claim he deserves to start for Celtic.

We should be actively looking for a new no.1

 

In reality Lenny was talking about both of them, Bain’s number one just now and Gordon coming in for a dead rubber and being encouraged to push for competition doesn’t change that fact.

 

I like David Marshall. Was relieved to see he was back in goal. Stevie Clark doesn't trust Bain either. Gordon is our best keeper since Leighton/Goram for me though.

 

Remember the 2-4 game Kenny Miller?

He was a man down at times. Crazy guy.

 

Gordon is absolutely nowhere near Boruc. He’s closer to Rab than Artur.

 

Remember all the times Boruc won us points or kept us in a game?

They certainly outweigh his clangers.

 

I thought bain was outstanding in quite a few games last season.

 

Boruc I'll say is still my fav goalie, for a period got to a level I've not seen in a goalie at Parkhead before.

But Gordon was more consistent, sorry but Artur even in his pomp had a howler or 2 in him, and it got progressively worse, I think Gordon didn't. We won't even discuss one's kicking against the other, unless you mean taking a penalty.
