Paper talk don't see Gordon wanting to go sit on a bench after the problems he had with injuries, different if he was going for guaranteed starting

I think we at the point where we are too secure financially to need to worry about offers like this, when we get a good price but have no need to sell. That being said... £3 million for Craig Gordon? :fear:

I wouldn't be selling Gordon unless we had another good keeper waiting to take his place, DeVries isn't good enough to be starting for us.

It's not simply because we can't get better right now or somebody who is ready if we did the 3 million would be accepted in my opinion happy it's the case that it isn't

I think Its a none starter because gordon will know himself going there will mean spending the last years of his playing career on the bench or worse, 3rd choice.....of course he may fancy a final payday.

Personally I think Gordon would 100% want the move. An Epl title winner's medal on his cv, 2 or 3 time's what he's on here and probably having to do fuckall for it..

No one remembers goalies that win title medals from the bench, so doubt he'd go for that reason. Maybe money but doesn't seem the type that would go for that.

Personally I think he'll stay after what's happened to him in his career, he lost a lot of it due to injury and must be delighted to be back playing first team with one of thr biggest football clubs in the world.

Maybe, but an injury or one blip and next thing Gordon is the go to guy..
Guaranteed Champion's League football next year also..

If we sell him, we're definitely lining someone up with a bit of a steal of a deal for his age. If we don't, we've still got a very capable keeper who seems to be improving, and is steady enough again..

I think he is a reasonable man, and if we asked him to stay, he probably would. I doubt he is going to be chasing the money, I'm sure he will have got a pretty penny off Sunderland while injured and seems sensible enough that he will have banked some of that, just in case.
But I couldn't fault him for wanting a medal - for his own personal satisfaction. * what people will remember, the guy went to the EPL in the hope of making it big, one last chance to grab a medal from that league may just sway it for him.

If he has plans to go into Management or coaching too after retiring then it would be good for him to work with world class players and coaches and management for a few years, you never know too he might be able to take on a Goalkeeper coaching role after 3/4/5/6 years their too and earn a good living for decades to come.

If I was him I would go.

Was that no exactly how it panned out for Mark Schwarzer? Went to Chelsea in his 30's and got a couple of runs and was a coach at them..

No point in selling him unless it's silly money tbh

Anything over £2m is silly money for a 34 year old goalkeeper who we brought back from the brink of retirement, and has only months left on his contract.

Aye, Gordon would be a good candidate to go into goalkeeper coaching too, seems a smart * and nowadays with the money most top level keepers will have no interest in coaching as it wouldnt be worth getting out of bed for £5k a week or whatever theyd earn at the top level at a club like Chelsea, so guys like Gordon who will probably still want to earn money after retirement would be ideal.

I don't see Gordon going. He has battled for his No1 position and proved his worth - the jersey is his. He has came a looooong way since his injury. Does he want to be a bench warmer in these final years or possibly be part of the greatest Celtic team in over a decade? That's an easy one for a 34 year old.

Still of we're talking millions I would take it. The league in the bag and we can find just as capable a keeper but younger for that money.

I would say it's more testament to the guy's character that he has been able to turn around not just his footballing career, but his life also where he has now put himself into a position where he is being courted by the current leaders of (what is generally perceives as) the English top flight.

Beautiful Sunday - the IRA version
    Fair points.

He'd probably get 35-40k just for sitting on their bench.

And he knows that, while he's hardly ever going to play, there is always the possibility that he could be called into action for a club that could well be in the latter stages of the CL and going for league titles.

I wanted him replaced at the start of the season, but I've warmed to him again. I think he's a very good goalkeeper and that replacing him will be much harder than people think.
