Tackling from behind isn't a foul. Going through the player from behind and getting the ball is a foul. Simply being behind the player when you win the ball isn't a foul.

For the second I haven't seen properly(apart from first showing) so can't really comment. First impressions were that there wasn't much contact and didn't think it was enough for a yellow anyway but could be wrong about that.

Think I'll give it a whirl. I want to know how we played.

Just see the way the majority on here are happy with our performance as an indication of how we played. There will always be a minority who are never happy.

For me what our European campaign has shown is that we have players who are good enough for SPFL but those who cannot cut it in Europe, eg Forrest, Stokes, Izzy, JG. On top of that I can see us losing 2 CDs, our loanees will go back and can see another batch coming in, which will mean Ronny has to go through the fitness regime again. So as much as I've enjoyed this season so far - but we haven't achieved anything yet - I can see us starting at base camp all over again come July/August.

Thought we were very brave, played without fear and I like that in this team, it's been a long time coming, I recon another 2 seasons and we will get results against teams like tonight ,some of the passing tonight was sharp and fast and our play from the back was good .
negatives were ,stupidity, quidetti not mobile enuf ,biton not quite as good tonight ,Johansen full of energy but touch wasn't there ,forrest is not ready yet either, Denayer was excellent, Gordon was great, gms and Armstrong look great ,Ambrose had a decent game .

Obviously a troll but for anyone in doubt, page 126 is only:
    Serious foul play
A player is guilty of serious foul play if he uses excessive force or brutality
against an opponent when challenging for the ball when it is in play.
A tackle that endangers the safety of an opponent must be sanctioned as
    serious foul play.
Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the
front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force
and endangering the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play.
Advantage should not be applied in situations involving serious foul play unless
there is a clear subsequent opportunity to score a goal. The referee must send
off the player guilty of serious foul play when the ball is next out of play.
A player who is guilty of serious foul play should be sent off and play is
restarted with a direct free kick from the position where the offence occurred
(see Law 13 – Position of free kick) or a penalty kick (if the offence occurred
    inside the offender’s penalty area).

So yeah, 'lunging at an opponent from behind is a foul. Regular tackles are not. As in, the tackles which get the full ball and don't even touch the player. Or tackles which are in no way close to ever damaging the opposing player.

From what I read here is does not make any difference what direction the tackle comes from.

So he got a yellow card because it is taboo rather than an actual law of the game?

See tbh after the Legia/Maribor shambles I said to myself anything we get in Europe this season is a bonus and tonight and last week I saw Ronnys team grow up and deal with things they havn't had to deal with domestically and this will do this team the world of good as will getting a few trophies under their belts (hopefully the treble) im optimistic about the qualifiers in July now as I think apart from the exception of Van Dijk, Denayer and Guidetti every other player at Celtic are in it for the long run and will only leave if Celtic want them to. Stay positive my fellow tims gd times are ahead!!

This, I referee at a semi pro level and it's all about contact and intent.

Personally I thought the second yellow was a bit harsh (definitely a foul, though) but the first is so blatantly wrong I actually think we should appeal it so that Virgil is available for the qualifiers.

Wouldn't he only miss the very first qualifying game anyway? Which if it's against opposition such as Cliftonville or Reykjavik again, it shouldn't be too much of a problem as we should win comfortably anyway

VVD will be off by then so no need to worry about him not playing our next game in Europe. Time to get Mulgrew back at the heart with a n other!!!!!

Was extremely proud of the team last night too. Ronny Deila as well. Going to the San Siro, playing 4-3-3 and making it work was one of his finest hours so far. I just wish we could stop getting shafted by dodgy referees and ending up being valiant failures. Gets wearing after a while. :54:

Anyway, on the bright side, I believe more than ever there's a treble on the horizon. Let's do it. :shamrock:

Agreed, but if this team continues to grow as it has been the refs wont get the opportunity to influence it hopefully!
I was buzzing watching our players swarming all over them (when we had 11) and passing it out of tight situations (the whole game)
    This is getting exciting :celt_2:
