Possibly lads, I’m just not confident that they’ll pay up due to the Itakura situation this summer.

Would just rather it was permanent and not LTB.

Christopher Jullien is close to joining Schalke as Celtic now step-up the pursuit of a new central defender.

The Frenchman has moved to the brink of sealing a loan move out of Glasgow to the Bundesliga after travelling to Germany for medical tests. Jullien was unable to force his way into the plans of boss Ange Postecoglou last term after returning from a long-term knee injury.

The 29-year-old is set to sign a temporary agreement with a contract clause understood to mean Celtic can command a fee next summer if that is transformed into a permanent agreement. Jullien cost the club £7 million when moving from Toulouse three years ago and made a smart initial impact, but injury meant he was on the sidelines when the Aussie arrived and he was subsequently unable to disrupt the Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt partnership.

With Stephen Welsh left as the only recognised top-team centre-back alongside the American and the Swede, Postecoglou needs reinforcements.

    @Keano88 will be happy :84:

Disappointed this has fallen through, but I think he'll be gone soonish, hopefully to a club that'll buy him outright, even if it's for less than the £3 million quoted.

Seen a lot of comments on social media about how amazing Jullien is and a much better option than Starfelt, think some people are getting real rose tinted specs about him after being out so long. He was slow even before his injury and for a guy of his size far too easily pushed around by more physical strikers. I don't think he's a bad player, but for me he's never really lived up to his pricetag.

    Schalke deal with Celtic-Star burst

The transfer of Celtic player Christopher Jullien, which was believed to be safe, fails – despite the medical check at Schalke 04 that has already been completed.

The deal with Christopher Jullien from Celtic Glasgow for the S04 burst in the last few meters!

As SPORT1 found out on Thursday morning, the Royal Blues and the 29-year-old central defender could not agree on a contract. (NEWS: Everything about the transfer market in the SPORT1 transfer ticker)

The Frenchman was even on Wednesday for preliminary medical examinations at the Bergmannsheil hospital in Gelsenkirchen-Buer.

In the subsequent contract talks, the player, his advisors and Schalke sports director Rouven Schröder did not find common ground.

Schalke had basically agreed with the traditional Scottish club on a one-year loan with an option.

I'd guess most teams will be reluctant to sign him outright while he's pretty much untested since his injury, and being one of our high earners it won't be so easy to get him to agree a move unless he really is motivated to play over making money, at 29 we could be the biggest wage of his career. This could really drag out, wouldn't surprise me if he sees out his contract or we end up paying him off.

If it's down to wages then no drama we will find another suitor. I fear this might have more to do with the medical though

Jullien will be on a good wage if we paid £7m for him.

Teams will want him on the cheap due to his injury. They'll not want to pay £7m player wages.

As said before, if we have extended the deal of someone who has no future yet we can’t get rid of him, it is beyond stupid.

This is what im wondering too, it said we triggered the extension so Schalke would buy him after the loan. Surely we havent been that stupid lol. * will be sitting on the same wages for an extra year now if thats the case.
