Weirdly it seems to becoming more and more popular at international level though.

 

That was the first time in 20 years a team won the CL playing with three at the back, Chelsea pretty much parked the bus in the last final so was more like 7 at the back lol.

 

I think 3 at the back with a far more fluid system infront of them is becoming big, it’s like there’s two versions of an attacking midfielder now with it, one that’s practically a striker and the other which would be more traditionally labled box to box. 2 upfront is starting to come back as well in the last few years.

Read a book about the evolution of tactics years ago called Inverting the Pyramid, was very interesting showing you how tactics evolved really interesting how everything just builds to counteract stuff that might have been popular years ago and it goes round in cycles.

Considering Atletico Madrid won La Liga pretty much playing 442 I reckon you’ll see it more and more.

 

Is there any news on how CJ’s injury is coming along? Is he close to coming back or is he going to be missing for the start of the season?

 

Heard anything from September until Christmas before he’s back.

Think he is running at near capacity now though so September would seem more realistic.

We can not go in to a season with Welsh and Starfelt as the most experienced CB we have till * knows when.

We must be the unluckiest team in world football when it comes to injuries. Seems we always have one or two first team players out for lengthy spells at a time.

 

He will be back in September.

 

That’s what he said originally am sure which is still months he will need a full pre season so most likely October before you see him got potential 16 games between now and then

 

I think as a club we should assume, and plan that he comes back later than anticipated and breaks down with a niggling injury. With this in mind we should get at least 2 CB’s, if they’re on loan so be it, just don’t rely on him coming back early and being any good. We cannot rely on him, no matter how well his rehab is going. I know the longer someone is out the better they become in some folks minds. In reality was he worth the £7 million?
