    18 months would be ideal.

Only worry is Conte may not be there much longer so I hope they don’t have some sort of clause where they can bring Musonda back early if their new manager fancies him.

Celtic are close to agreeing a deal to take Chelsea winger Charly Musonda on an 18-month loan.

The 21-year-old Belgian will hold talks with the Scottish champions in Glasgow on Monday.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was keen to tempt him north last summer, but Chelsea decided against the move.

Rodgers has made no secret of his desire to add more quality to his squad ahead of the Europa League tie against Zenit St Petersburg next month.

Musonda joined Chelsea in 2012 from Anderlecht along with his older brothers Tika and Lamisha, signing a contract extension in March 2015.

After a previous loan spell with Real Betis in Spain's La Liga he has broken into the Chelsea first team this season - scoring once in seven appearances.

However, all but two of those have been from the bench and he was an unused substitute in Sunday's 3-0 FA Cup win over Newcastle.

Celtic target Charly Musonda is set to land in Glasgow tomorrow to tie up an 18-month loan deal at Celtic Park.

The 21-year-old Belgian was an unused sub for Chelsea in their FA Cup win against Newcastle.

But the Stamford Bridge club are keen for the youngster to go out on loan with Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers winning the race for the no.10 ahead of Spanish outfit Leganes, Seria A Roma and Championship Nottingham Forest.

Record Sport understands Celtic will have to stump up a sizable seven-figure loan fee for the playmaker - but Musonda is viewed as top value for a talented starlet who could help fire the club to the Premiership title and spearhead Champions League qualification push.

Rodgers is a long-term admirer of the attacker and came close to snapping him up in the summer before Chelsea slammed the door on a short-term switch.

Musonda penned a five year deal at Stamford Bridge and the club are predicting a big future with the EPL big guns as well as with the Belgian national side.

But he’s made just seven top-team appearances this term - including the late cameo in last week’s Premier League win against Brighton.

The forward is keen to gain more experience and was sold on Celtic are meeting Rodgers and taking in the win against St Johnstone at Parkhead last season.

Musonda admitted to Hoops defender and close pal Dedryck Boyata he was bowled over the the atmosphere and the promise of potential Champions League action persuaded him to move to Scotland.

Chelsea were keen to insert a recall clause in the summer but Rodgers wants the playmaker available for Europe next term.

The Parkhead gaffer is determined to bolster his attacking options with Patrick Roberts, Stuart Armstrong and Jonny Hayes all out injured for various lengths of time.

Roberts is close to a comeback, but Armstrong is several weeks away and Hayes will be sidelined for the rest of the season.

Rodgers is also sweating on the fitness of Leigh Griffiths and keeper Craig Gordon.

The pair were sent for scans yesterday after being crocked in the 1-0 win against Hibs on Saturday. Griffiths has suffered a recurrence of a calf problem but it’s hoped he will be able to make the UEFA Cup clash against Zenit St Petersburg in just over a fortnight.

There are more concerned over Gordon following a nasty collision with former Celt Efe Ambrose which left the shot stopper with a damaged knee.

The 35-year-old’s season could be in the balance and Rodgers admitted at the weekend he could be forced to recruit another keeper to compete with Dorus de Vries with youngster Connor Hazard out on loan at Falkirk.

Meanwhile Celts are set to step up their bid to land Dundee defender Jack Hendry. The Parkhead club saw a £500,000 offer rejected around the New Year but are expected to slap in an improved bid - with the Dens men holding out for a fee of around £1.5m.

Really no point in anyone having a moan about developing other team's players and not bringing someone in permanently.

For players of his class and ability, loans are the only way we are able to get them in. Even then we are paying good fees for the pleasure of it as well. No one wants to come to Scotland to play football nowadays so it's the next best thing to a permanent deal which would require more funds than is appropriate for us to part with realistically even with our recent CL qualifications and VVD money.

Most players nowadays with real quality and ability. Otherwise they'd all be here or there would at least be a good deal more.

18 month loan deal....so that means he's here to help us challenge for 5 domestic trophies, and be part of two European runs.

    "Pointless" indeed.

Didn't know if he played in Champs Lg this season or if that'd even rule him out of Europa.

I just know we like to get players in who aren't eligible :52:

This boy looks very raw, watching some highlights and his final ball is not great. Hopefully Rodgers works his magic on him ASAP, like he did with Roberts and Forrest.

Looks like he will play on the left which will give sinclair something to think about.
