Yeah, he looks like he'll be brilliant on the right. You never know though, he could turn out to be a Macherano type...maybe. :icon_mrgreen:

He was good with has passing and when he was on the ball.

His defending and positioning wasn't great though.

It's obvious his best position is in midfield.

I'd like us to sign another CB - someone young but with a little bit of first team experience.

I've obviously just not noticed. It's a massive bonus to our side.

Aye, definitely mate. It's a Ronny thing as well, the man on the right always goes very wide when the centre half has the ball at the back. Left tends to cut in and support the striker.

Woeful performance from Mulgrew last night. The name of this thread needs to be changed.

3 or 4 years ago I would've agreed with it but not now. What's happened to him? He's normally pretty good for Scotland as well.

Hopefully it's just poor form that will come to pass and not a permanent dip in ability.

I really have to tell myself I'm watching a different game to other fans at times. Woeful? Really? He hardly set the heather ablaze, but I can't for a second believe that anyone thought he was *that* bad.

Woeful :smiley-laughing002: annoys me how certain players are praised even when they have a bad game but guys like Charlie, Stokes and Forrest get pelters

Mulgrew WAS woeful last night. His poor positioning led to a lot of their attacking efforts where he simply didn't get close enough to his man.

And when he did have the ball, he gave it away too often.

Worst player on the park last night.

I think he'll get benched when Big Dijk is back in town.

Don't think he done anything wrong, except a few sloppy passes like everyone else. Had plenty of time on the ball because they were sitting that deep.

Really wouldn't feel comfortable going into the CL or even EL with a Mulgrew-Boyata partnership.

Aye, and rightly so. Still an incredibly valuable player to have in the squad though.

    Woeful :56:

Just proves folk have their favourites and those they dislike and that's always going to be the case. In no way was any Celtic player woeful.

In fact based on last seasons performance the only guy that came close was Johansen, who's touch and passing were both 'woeful'.

I hope we are not going into (hopefully) a European campaign with Mulgrew as Boyata's partner, if we sell Van Dijk.

I'd like to think we had more quality than Mulgrew and Ambrose otherwise I dread decent teams coming at us.

But even with that, he had the skill and ability to score, get an assist and he won us a penalty. Doing that in a supposed sub-par performance is pretty impressive.

Aye, was a game winning performance from Johansen last night. Not a particularly good one though, he was * awful on the ball, gave it away countless times. Stood up in the big moments though, if you're going to have a bad game when you're a key player you can't ask for more than that.

If he's actually at the races in the return leg you'd reckon we'll horse them.

Johansen started last season in the exact same manner, except probably worse. He was absolutely destroyed by alot of people on here, some of the most laughable comments I've ever seen on this place were in his thread around August last year.

Might just be one of those players who takes a while to get going though. One thing is for sure, once he does, he doesn't stop running till the end of the season.

As has been said, to score one, assist another and win a pen while playing pretty poorly is the sign of a good player.

He was really really poor in the last 7 or 8 games of last season aswell , gave the ball away non stop and his touch was awful. I pointed it our on countless times and was told he was tired after a long season .
Truth is Johansen was poor last season before christmas and he ended the season poorly in terms of all round performances in those post split games . He was outstanding for a period in February and March where he was our best player - it was this purple patch that won him awards and adulation last season . This year is a big one for him .
