He is going nowhere, including moving back to centre half.

Bitton is playing and developing well but here will always be a place for a versatile player such as Mulgrew. I think it is fairly evident Deila agrees with that.

He's also the best cover we have for LB, wonder when he's fit if Ronny will give Izzy a rest since there is no one else to rotate in there except Charlie.

He will be kept due to the fact we have a lot of games over a season and he can fill in a number of positions. However it will be the end of our CL aspirations if he is paired with Ambrose at CB.

He said in an interview a while a go that his target was to be back after the international break.

Mulgrew may just be returning at the right time if Biton is injured, he has been immense but I think Charlie can step up to the role. People seem to have short memories regarding Mulgrew, a few months of not playing his best and suddenly he's *! Never seen him give less than 100% in a Celtic jersey and his set pieces and crosses really do give us that extra dimension to our play.

I agree. His poor form matched up pretty perfectly with the poor run that Johansen had at the start of the season and now people are putting him forward at POTY. It's a shame for Mulgrew that he hasn't had the chance to turn his season around yet. This could be it.

Hope Chuck comes back revitalised. Was a very useful and versatile player for a long while. Hence the headline for this thread. Charlie is a good player and a bit of burnout and loss of form does not mean he is *. Short memories as someone said.

i really dont want mulgrew to come back, especially to the midfield. i really cant stand this player, slow, ineffectual and a poor decision maker. he belongs back in the aberdeen squad.

its so refreshing to have bittons class in midfield. its actually an insult to Nir to have mulgrews name mentioned in the same sentence as his.

Charlies had his time, punt him on or shove him back at CB, nowhere else.

Thats a wee bit harsh ,If VvD and Denayer leave then he will be back at his best position at CB.
At the very least hes a great squad player to have because he can play so many positions.

To be fair to Charlie when he was playing poorly the team were trying to adapt to Ronnys methodology and tactics.

Will be interesting to see Charlie's range of passing in much more well oiled machine.

Still can't get my head around this injury, what sort of injury is it?

At the time it seemed like nothing and I'm pretty sure Deila expected him to be out for only a month. Really strange.

Hopefully, should never play in midfield again unless he's the only option.

Charlie is a good player, and a good type to have around the squad. He wouldn't be part of our strongest XI, but he can cover a few positions, and he can do it well.

Aye it's an area we need to stenghten..although I see Armstrong playing there.

If Brown gets injured Bitton and Armstrong don't provide much bite tho..I'd take McGinn from St.Mirren and another.

Charlie is a great squad player but not first pick in any position. May still need to do a job in the midfield unless we build this area.

He was * poor under Lennon in the middle of the park as well.
Sure he can 'operate' in that position, but he offers little to nothing that helps the team - apart from being an added body. Too slow for LB and also too slow to track back from CM. Going forward he just isn't good enough either.

It's bugged me for long before Deila, that we play him in the midfield.

Hopefully he gets played in the CB positions if he is still here next season, where he played his best ever season for us over both spells.
I wont say we have to sell him, certainly not. But * using him in the middle again. May as well put Commons at CB if we are pulling Mulgrew out at CM.

Pretty unfair he's not been that poor in the midfield. He does provide decent cover, in area we need to strengthen.

Edit: WGS picked him in that position to play the World Champs and I was reminded on here he had a great game that night, so WGS, Lennon and Ronny may know something about the game all the experts on here don't?
