What to do with Mulgrew ? Does he walk right back into the midfield when fit again. Or is he shoe horned into centre back or left back, or even left out ?

He should be worked back into the the defense again. He was our best defender when he played at CH and we'll be losing Van Dijk and Denayer in the summer.

Agree with this. He is awful at CM, gets found out in Europe especially, he gets outclassed in every game. Can do a job in the SPL there or maybe out on the left but really he should be back up for Izzy or Denayers replacement for next year (assuming we don't try re-loan him from city).

I think he is fine in CM in big European games where we are going to be spending most of our time defending but in almost all domestic games he should be no where near our starting midfield.

'Not good enough for Europe' is a pile of nonsense.

Best player on the park against Ireland for Scotland, one of the best against Belgium. Numerous assists against the likes of Barcelona in the Champions League.

There is a reason Strachan starts him there against quality midfielders, the very attribute that seems to * off a large chunk of fans is the same attribute which makes him a perfect fit against better players - composure. There was only 1 player on the park against Ireland, in particular, that was playing at his own pace and dictated the play and it was Charlie.

Has Bitton played better there in recent games? Aye. Does that mean we should just forget about Mulgrew and sit and slate him? He'll play centre mid for us in the future and he'll play well, undoubtedly.

Has Bitton's only contribution in Europe not been him getting sent off when we were needing to see a game out?

Stll prefer Mulgrew to Bitton in big European games, personally. Obvious potential aside, I've not seen anything from Bitton to suggest he's currently a better player than Mulgrew.

On current form, Bitton is a better player. Mulgrew is going through a very poor spell at the minute. His best attribute, his passing, has been letting him down badly. It seems to be similar passes he is making mistakes with as well, square passes in our own half.

Form is temporary; class is permanent. Funny how Mulgrew only seems to be in bad form for us (and even then not every game).

You say that, but other than the season he won POTY playing at centre half, he has been * over the 4/5 seasons.

A spell on the bench may be for the best but he is still a good player. Keep the faith.

No doubt, funny thing is his passing forward has been fine though, it's quite strange. Still one of the only players who can confidently pass the ball forward, into the right areas for the strikers from further back into the pitch.

Infact, not even there, look at his ball to Izzy for Johansen's goal against Salzburg, majority of our players * up passes like that in Europe.

He needs to up the ante, definitely but he's another one that people go overboard with. Like we saw with Johansen earlier this season.

You don't keep selecting a player if he is playing below par though mate. Bitton has grabbed his opportunity, I think we can agree on that, so for me, Mulgrew should for the time being, be left out, if everyone is fit. Class may well be permanent, there are plenty examples to suggest otherwise though, I would say that. Lee Naylor for example.

Biton is a better player. Mulgrew would do better if he stops thinking he's * Pirlo.

Mulgrew has been struggling and he does deserve a spell on the bench. Although this talk of him being a bad player and what not, is utter rubbish.

He's definitely not a bad player but he's been playing poorly for the most part, for quite some time..

He's certainly a good enough player to be in our squad, right now though, he's not doing enough to be a first teamer..

Bitton has grabbed his chance and deserves to be able show us if he can maintain it(or improve) and perform at a higher level(Europa league Thursday for starters)..

His best form was left mid or centre back. Never rated him at centre mid. Not when we have legit centre mids not gettin a chance.

Still a steady dependable squad player
