I had a dream last night that I asked Charlie if I could have his babies.

    No regrets.

Speaking of dreams, had one last of making a football commercial.

Adidas should have him in their next one. Good looking chap, too.

The amount of time he has had a match winning influence on our team in the last 18 months is staggering for a centre back,

I agree that he would do a job on the left of midfield but his composure at the back is too valuable for me to have him playing anywhere else.

He really is our secret weapon, people don't tend to talk about him when discussing our best players, I think it's mainly down to his career path as most top players stand out at a young age.

Not sure what length of contract he's on but I'd get him signed up for 5 years coz eventually some teams are gonna start noticing him.

A few folk saying they would have him at LM. Personally, i would continue playing him at CB. He reads the game better than any our defence. His distribution from the back is first class. I hate seeing a CB that panics on the ball, you are a nervous wreck every time they get it. i.e Kelvin Wilson. Its all well and good saying go out and buy a quality defender to play beside Rogne, but going by our signings of recent times for centre halfs, its not as simple as that. Charlie still gets his fair share of goals and assists, and i prefer one of my CB to have a bit of composure on the ball.

I'm with you here, Mulgrew's best position for us is definitely CB. If he has to move out to LM at some stage to provide cover then so be it but we should be looking to play him CB as often as possible.

I agree. Look at Barcelona for example. They often play with a central midfielder (mainly Mascherano) as a centre back. Now Mascherano isn't a great defender however he is an excellent footballer and allows them to bring the ball out from the back. Having Mascherano at CB, just like having Mulgrew there is a positive move. It allows us to be calm at the back, allows Forster to refrain from hitting it long, allows a CB to bring the ball out and even allows us to have a sort of secret weapon.

We are going to have dodgy moments at the back but the positives far outweigh the negatives.

keep him at centre back, his quality was missed on Saturday, when we struggle to break teams down its good to have him at the back cos he can pick out a great pass and open a team up and is also brilliant at pinging the ball 30 yards and opening up the play

Mulgrew for me is already quite an accomplished defender, that is mainly down to his reading of the game and the fact he has a football brain on him. Because he isn't the quickest. I hate when Forster has to hoof it, because it becomes anybody's ball then. And we havn't exactly got a target man upfront for that type of game. Very often, Mulgrew waits on someone from the wing peeling round the back and looks for the ball in behind. And he has got the ability to find the man. The more he plays at CB the better he will become IMO.

He needs to cut out the long balls though, starting to look too much like Caldwell for my liking! His delivery is brilliant and we need his crossing, no doubt about it, but the long chipped balls from defence through the middle are simply pointless, seeing as Charlie himself and Ledley are the only ones who can * head it!

He's at his best when taking the ball out of defence on the deck, or on the wing at pinging crosses into the back stick. Hooper can take those all day and stick them in the pokey, but just flinging it up for Sammy to head is a mug's game. Samaras hasn't knowingly headed a ball in his life.

Use them when needed:50: Why play the long ball all the time when we have so much quality in midfield?
It is a joy to see though when Charlie pings the ball 60 yards straight into Forrests/Commons' path.

But aye, Charlie Mulgrew is a quality player and easily the most improved player in Scotland in the last 18 months. And as someone mentioned before the amount of match winning performances he's put in, goals and assists is staggering.

I dont know about playing him in left mid. From defence when he runs forward, by the time he hits the half way line he is flying and can go past players easily, but if he was in midfield he wouldnt build up the same speed when running forward, left-back would probably suit him better but id keep him at CB as our Pique.

Am am glad he has had a road to Damascus turn around in his career. I took a while to warm to him because I watched him a fair bit with Aberdeen and he didnt even look good for them. Very happy with him now. Never a LB though.

I think the big man would make a great left sided midfielder.

Strong, good passer, good defensive mind and an eye for goal. Everything you would look for in a midfield player.

I honestly think he would be a star there.

Not sure he has the centre of gracity for that personally. He had a great left peg but would he be able to spin about enough in a tight MF. Not sure myself. I like the idea of him as the left of a back 3 but I dont like that formation.

Aye, I would leave him at CB as well. Its great having a CB who can play a bit and take the game by the scruff like he did last night with that first goal. We have enough options in midfield and no striker with any height to challenge for his balls into the box

Reminds me of Thommo. Want him kept at CB though.

Did you watch the league winning game at Rugby Park or last night? Every time he gets forward he is creating a yard of space and whipping in quality balls time and time again. If he isn't he's sticking it in the pokey!

He's about an inch shorter than Sammy actually :icon_mrgreen:

Can see the Thommo comparison myself. Clearly different players but a sweet left peg, plenty of dig, can score from distance and is now making a habit of scoring crucial goals. All the same as Thommo.

I think we should be looking for experience at centre half, not that he hasn't been brilliant there for over a season, but it will catch us up eventually and Rogne needs a proper partner to learn from.
