Too hit and miss especially his free kicks and very lazy/ takes too much time on the ball.
Plays a great long ball but apart from that I can't think what would make him good enough.

He should be played in that holding midfielder role. Could become our very own Busquets

    1. His long range passing is semi-decent at times, not enough though and is prone to a few howling passes as well. Especially in the CL.
    2. Pish, or he would be played there. As other have said, he's crow-barred into the side all the time and he makes a lot of huge errors in defense and rarely gets back to defend when in midfield which is where he's played all season.
    3. At times but not enough and again, can't cut it in Europe from Open-play.
    4. He does get goals at times I can't take that away from him, however in Europe his miss against Barca this season cannot be forgiven. He shat it basically. Not good enough at that level also, way out his depth. We should have others to score goals though soon enough in January, So he wont be needed for goals.
5.Absolute pish they have been rubbish for about a year or more now. Hopeless and they are now generally really poor about 95% of the time he takes them. He is not this dead-ball specialist people say he is. Guys like Alan Thompson and Nakamura were, Mulgrew is not.
    6. Don't make me laugh, 'A Jack Of All Trades, Master of None' is what he is. Terrible LM, Terrible LB, Terrible Midfielder, Very poor at times CB, prone to massive errors which people seem to forget.
    7. Don't see this composure you talk about, think its more a lazy approach and slow movement you see from him which makes you think he's composed, however he's just a slow average, mediocre player in my eyes and had found his level at Aberdeen, not us.
Calm yourself doon, that's Bitons role or another signing.

Mulgrew's very lazy? I'd strongly disagree with that.

Not sure i agree with all of your pros there zander but i do agree rather critical and exaggerated response from finny, to be honest you could get any player give them pros and cons and then offer examples that argue against them.

That's fair enough. Which do you you not agree with though?

I would argue his delivery is very inconsistent, i don't personally see him as a free kick taker to be honest its very hit and miss. Our problem lies in that we don't really have too many other viable set piece takers other than commons and stokes, stokes is also very inconsistent.

I would also argue slightly against defensive awareness, i think his lack of pace and positional awareness in a position (CM which he has not been in all of his career) can leave him exposed.

But i am being critical, i think he is a good player and his partnership with brown does look promising. Its certainly the position i would play him in, the only other is CB, i think he is definitely not a LB.

I wasn't referring to his shooting ability from Freekicks, I was referring to his crossing, corners and crossed set-pieces, which are inconsistant, but you wont find many player who are consistant in that regard. The deliveries may not be as good as last season, but we know he has that in his locker, with over 20 assists in the previous 2 seasons. Within our squad, he provides the best delivery, no doubt.

Defensive awareness, I think he has that. I think we've been solid when he's played the "quarterback" role this season, constantly looking for the ball, not venturing too far forward. Picking up alot of loose balls. Plus you need to have some kind of defensive awareness to play centre back as well as he has in the past.

But, if you don't agree, then fair enough :50:

His deliveries are the same. There's just no Gary Hooper or Victor Wanyama in the box.

Commons Corners have been frustrating me recently, can't wait for Charlie to get back on them to be honest :smiley-laughing002:

Charlies not been taking him because he's probably the best person to get on the end of them just now. Van Dijk wins everything but rarely gets them on target, Efe gets them on target even less, Mulgrew doesn't get on the end enough but when he does it's generally on target.

    Heart breakingly - Barca aside.

Candyman We love you Celtic (we do)

One of the biggest loads of tripe that I have ever had the misfortune of reading on this forum !

There is irrefutable proof that by looking at Celtic's goal reel since he returned it clearly proves he has one of the deadliest deliveries in the UK at the very least. Charlie has clearly worked hard and improved in all aspects of his game since he arrived for FREE I might add. He should be praised and shown some respect for now fulfilling the early promise he showed as a youngster.

The very fact that Gordon Strachan "who did not fancy him in his first spell" is now naming him as one of the first names on the Scotland team sheet says it all ! Is he clueless as well ???

He just needs to be given a set position and be kept there which will be down to Lenny to assign.

His POTY season is one of the best season performances I've seen from a Celtic defender in years and being 26 I might even go as far and say best ever from a CB period.

I would love him to put back at CB even though we have had a solid partnership develop between Efe and VVD, I still believe Charlie and VVD would be even better, however the only real problem we have now since Wanyama leaving is Charlie is the only player capable of doing that role which means he will be given that berth all day long while fit.

He is every bit as important as Brown to the team and I feel there is a clear difference when he is out of the team
