The silence from Muslim leaders, not condemning the actions, that is the worrying thing.

As soon as you say, 'Well what did they expect?', you've absolutely lost.

I'd agree with that last point. The lack of condemnation from the rest of Islam is deafening.

    A quick google...

France's Muslim leadership sharply condemned the shooting at a Paris satirical weekly that left at least 12 people dead as a "barbaric" attack and an assault on press freedom and democracy, AFP reports Wednesday.

"This extremely grave barbaric action is also an attack against democracy and the freedom of the press," the French Muslim Council (CFCM) said in a statement.

Remember the media decide who gets airtime they decide what and who you see. Jut because it's not on the news that does not mean people are silent.

There should be marches in the streets much like Glasgow experienced during the ongoing palestine crisis. Especially if this issue is also experienceing media supression.

How many Muslim world leaders have we heard condemning the attack?? I've done a quick Google search too and there is only 1 Muslim community condemning it, the local one.

It's a dark day when Vladimir Putin is seen to be defending free speech.

So the satirical newspaper is to blame for the murderous actions of others? This is a newspaper which openly has a pop at all religions, not just Islam. If the newspaper makes a conscious choice to not publish cartoons of one religion then it has lost all integrity and ceases to exist for the reason it was created. We then have a situation where journalists (and this is political journalism through satire) have to censor what they print. Where does that stop?

Why are you looking for a reason to validate the actions of two men who walked into a newspaper and murdered twelve people because they disagreed with a few cartoons they printed?

Man, wish i hadn't watched that video of the officer being shot.
He puts his hands up when he's on the ground. Beyond sick.

    Hope they catch them.

Did the Protestants of the world condemn the UVF when they were killing Catholics? What about Lords resistance army when they were killing Muslims where were world wide protests? It's a stupid argument mate, an English Muslim or a Irish greek does not have to come out in a huge protest anytime some nutters kill people in another country.

You have to ask yourself who actually benefits from attacks on these great institutes of Western civilisation (attacks on government buildings are attacks on democracy - whatever that is; attacks on press offices are attacks on our freedom of speech - whatever that is).

The only people I see benefitting from this are those on the (far-)right. You can bet your bottom dollar that this will be the precursor to infringements of civil liberties. Be absolutely certain of that.

Evil * are evil *. The sooner we learn that, the better for everyone.

If you're having tea with someone who you know is a) mentally unstable and b) has recently taken to Islam and they then proceed to smash all of the * cups on the table, which piece of information - a) or b) - is salient? There're 1.6 billion Muslims worldwide (almost one in every four people) and three or four of them shot up a press office in Paris today.

And of course Islam can be at odds with our values but the Muslim world - as far as I know - has never really had a period of revolutionary thought that we did here in the West, probably as a result of secularisation. Christianity, Judaism, etc. has had to adapt to that, whereas Islam has remained relatively unchanged for centuries. That's my assessment anyway. But just as the outdated beliefs of the Westboro Baptist Chruch aren't represenative of the beliefs of most Christians, the beliefs of these arseholes aren't representative of the beliefs of most Muslims.

This was One of their last cartoons about Islam and the reactions against the Magazine.

Edit: Since some on here find cartoons offensive for some weird reason here is a link to the image which is one of the covers of their last magazine
