The "people can do what they want" argument is nonsense. You buy a ticket to watch the game, not to sit glued to Facebook, Twitter and the likes. The atmosphere is bad enough with people sitting on their phones without introducing Wifi to encourage this. Fair enough it's 'getting with the times' but you're in a stadium for two hours. * forbid you to put your phone in your pocket for a couple of hours on a matchday. I can see its positives. Great for checking scores at HT etc but is it honestly the urgent that you can't wait another 45 minutes to check a football score? Dread to think what it'll be like in ten years time.

At half time fair enough but to sit on facebook while your at the game is daft imo. It's like going to the cinema and going on facebook and Twitter.

Who gives a * what other people are doing at a match?

It's not as if they're taking up seats that people are queuing up to get!

They should turn it off during the game. Turn it on at half time and before and after.

    Everybody's happy :smiley-laughing002:

No joke, that is actually a good idea, that's also what I was thinking of as well.

There's nothing wrong with modernising the stadium. Its a sign of the times and one I welcome. Different people want different things out of their match day experience.

Allows in play betting at the games, that might be one of the reasons for it being put in.

Seen someone on twitter say "if Celtic were handing out 50 pound notes at the gate people would complain that you only get one note and most shops won't accept them"

Great post. The real fans are still out there but you will always have the * that would rather film the game on their phones. Look at whats happened at Old Trafford. Absolute tourist fest.

Celtic Football Club: launches Wi-Fi service

Celtic Football Club has launched what it claims is the most technologically advanced in-stadia Wi-Fi, as it looks to combat the traditionally-poor mobile connectivity and web access in sports venues.

The newly-installed network – developed in collaboration with agency Sports Revolution and technology giant Cisco – will provide Wi-Fi access across the entire stadium including the corporate facilities, concourses and spectator seats.

The club is also set to roll out a new app, called "CelticLive", designed to enhance match days by giving users the ability to view and interact with club content. The app uses a platform, StadiumLive, which Sports Revolution claims will create commercial opportunities for sponsors advertisers and rights holders.

Paul Lawell, chief executive officer of Celtic Football Club, said: "Wi-Fi enabled football stadia have been talked about before, but no-one has done it on a scale and with the capacity to truly unlock what we see as tremendous potential."

Phil Smith, chief executive officer of Cisco, UK and Ireland, said: "With Cisco Connected Sports solutions, Celtic fans can now get real time, relevant information at their fingertips and share match-day thrills without worrying about mobile connection issues."

The network will be launched at the 60,832-seat Celtic Park later this year.

This thread has been somewhat of an eye opener for me. I find it incredible that some people actually sit and use Facebook when they're at the football.

The annoying thing is we are going to have this app rammed down our throats at every advertising opportunity Celtic get throughout the season

I'm glad it isn't just me!

I am a nightmare for constantly looking for other scores when I'm at a match, but I don't see that as any different to the old days when there would always be someone with a transistor radio pressed to their shouting out scores to everyone.

That anyone takes an IPad to a game really amazes me.

I'm not too keen on the idea of WI-FI in the stadium and I think it will have a negative effect on the atmosphere.. how much I don't know.

Any bus/train/waiting room everywhere you go people are * buried in their phones, it's annoying.

Yes it would be nice to check how your coupon is doing but I think it's kind of exciting not being able to find out till your a good bit away from the stadium before you can check all your scores.
