How much do you reckon we actually have to spend on bringing in new players?
Every year Peter Lawwell crys poverty however I believe there is alot more money in the kitty than he suggests. Rangers spend alot more money on players each year than celtic and the hoops are the ones winning the trophies and doing well in europe.
Whats everyone think?

I think the clubs spend a similar amount tbh. However I feel Celtic must have more money to spend although I haven't researched the facts at all. I would expect us to at least compete with their spend of 12 million this window though.

Yea your right, sure well see what happens in the next week or 2

Why dont you read a financial statement instead of making ignorant threads like this?
Rangers had to sell their 2 most valuable players in the last 6 months because of their poor financial management. Do you really want Celtic to spend like them??
If Celtic had to sell McGeady and Boruc, there would be huge uproar but we wont and we arent a selling club because Lawwell is a far better Chief Executive than you give credit for.
Peter Lawwell cries poverty for good reasons, only last season (year ended 2007) did Celtic PLC post its first after tax profit for at least 8 seasons ( I dont have records before 2000 to prove otherwise but I'd have a very very good guess that we didnt have a end of year profit for many many years before we even became a PLC) -

it has showed in the past that spending millions and millions in hope for glory leaves you in the minus as far as the bank balance is concerned and it dosn't work as you then spend the next few years cutting corners to cover the losses. - Hence the reason the oldfirm both have periods of domidence -

Dempsey its only a discussion no need to get your knickers in a twist. Just saying.... all he money earned im sure celtic can afford to spend more than 2-3 million for a player, they havnt even spent half that this summer, extremely tight if ya ask me.

The transfer window isnt closed and Celtic are still very much active in the market. Calling them tight is premature and wrong.
Would you like us to spend money for the sake of it? End up with the likes of Velicka, Miller, Lafferty and the host of other jokes they have bought. I want more signings too but I'm happy to wait for good signings not just getting into * contests with Rangers -
Correct me if i'm wrong but i've not heard a peep from lawell as concerns 'poverty'?

Previously we have spent on players merely to weaken others and to make for more depth in the squad, Celtic and other clubs can ill afford to do this now. They realise that boosting the 1st team rather than getting back ups in is more important meaning less signings are made!
Noone really thought Momo Sylla, David Fernandes, Chris Killen, et al would improve the 1st team.
I for one would rather bide my time to sign 2/3 players who would go straight in to the 1st team as opposed to wasting the same amount of money on 5/6 players to sit on their backsides and grow old! -

I'm still hoping for about 10m more to be spent before the close of the window.About 4m on a LB and roughly the same on a CB.Hopefully Maloney for around 2m as well.
