The frustration among Celtic fans back in January was obvious when a marquee striker signing failed to materialise.
Kyogo had departed in a £10million move to Rennes in Ligue 1, and manager Brendan Rodgers later revealed the Japanese hitman had asked to leave long before the deal was struck.
Pushing Daizen Maeda through the middle proved a masterstroke from Rodgers, with the 27-year-old stepping up impressively and delivering a strong goal return. But questions lingered: why, despite cash in the bank, was no new forward brought in?
Now, with the summer window open, it appears lessons have been learned — if our exclusive yesterday is anything to go by. Callum Osmand, the 19-year-old Fulham prospect, has completed his medical and is set to become Celtic’s second signing of the summer following Kieran Tierney’s return.


Osmand might not be the blockbuster name some fans had in mind — especially after the long-running Mathias Kvistgaarden saga — but his arrival deserves recognition.
For once, the recruitment team have moved quickly, identifying a promising young forward available via cross-border compensation. Critics may again point to a reluctance to splash out, but club sources insist to this reporter, Osmand has been on Celtic’s radar for some time. There’s genuine belief he has the tools to make an impact.
Rodgers gave the green light for the deal, and a quick scroll through social media reveals Fulham fans aren’t best pleased to be losing one of their top academy talents.
That alone speaks volumes. Osmand is a proven scorer at Premier League 2 level — whether he can make the step up to senior football in Scotland and Europe remains to be seen.
One thing is certain: Rodgers isn’t stopping here. Reinforcements in midfield and out wide are also on the agenda.
Celtic are often criticised for dragging their feet — with ‘due diligence’ sometimes morphing into outright delay. But the early capture of a striker this time around suggests that, finally, the operations team at Lennoxtown may be ahead of the curve.

Celtic are ramping up their transfer activity - with Kieran Tierney confirmed on a five-year deal this week.

The Hoops are also set to bring in Aberdeen keeper Ross Doohan, while Fulham kid Callum Osmand has agreed terms.

Rodgers will look to strengthen various areas and is also chasing more options in the wide areas - with Jota potentially out until 2026.

Antwerp’s Michel-Ange Balikwisha has been a long-term target and Celtic now have to decide whether to follow that up with a formal bid.

Anderlecht’s Nilson Angulo has been watched, as has Sarpsborg’s Sondre Orjasaeter and Raul Moro of Real Valladolid

There will also be outgoings - with the likes of Gustaf Lagerbielke and Luis Palma expected to leave permanently.

Greg Taylor seems destined to quit Celtic on a free, while talk of a Jeffrey Schlupp return has gone quiet.

Rodgers admits he also expects big-money bids for stars like Daizen Maeda in this window.

But the Celtic boss still hopes to tie down the Japanese ace on a new deal.
