To all the Austrians, welcome :50:

You are unfortunately bearing the brunt of the depth of ill feeling towards a group of people that cheated Celtic. I'm sure you can understand that in the first instance? The blatantness of it was unbelievable and we were robbed that season we were 'beat' at Old Trafford because we destroyed Vienna 3 nil at home and they resorted to the lowest of the low tactics of firstly trying to kick lumps out of us and then secondly feigning and cheating.

Some of the things being said are uncalled for though and you are welcome at Parkhead (as I hope we'd be welcomed in Vienna) the 'hatred' is aimed at Rapid Vienna the football team not Austrians or individual fans.

I feel much better now :)

So mates, I have a question, which striker is considered the best, or the most famous at Celtic football club? Is it Henrik Larsson? Well this guy scored far more than 150 goals or?

Now I am quite sure, that we will experience 180 minutes of fights on the pitch, where 11 green - whites form Glasgow will encounter 11 green- whites from Vienna, and the better team will pick up the points :)

Great or not? Football with emotions, shouting and cheering supporters, but no teeth will be left on the street, coz the were removed by a terrible fan fight or? :)

Heard this game is moving to the national stadium because there has been a massive amount of ticket requests, more than what their stadium can hold.

If it gets a bit hairy watch your backs people. Stay safe

i think the level of bitterness towards the RV club is down to how badly cheated we felt. back in 84 we were flying in europe we were looking good. the fact that rapid eventually got to the final was a sickener but at least everton did us a turn. i reckon we were good enough to get to the final. however i do believe we also would have lost to everton like RV did, as everton were magnificent that season.

First of all, thanks to ScottishGhirl for posting that vid.

Now, I'm a Rapid Vienna fan; ever been since I entered this world. Which means my views probably won't be any less biased than yours. Still I'd like to point out some things most (not all) Celtic supporters seem to have forgotten conveniently.

Let's have a look at that vid (#107). Celtic went 2-0 up, deservedly as far as I remember that night. From there, if things hadn't escalated, Celtic probably would have gone through on away goals - we'll never know.

Well then, stop the vid at 2:14 and watch what happened next. It's blinding obvious that our 'keeper had his hands on the ball before Tommy Burns ever got there. So, no, it wasn't a "loose ball" as so many Celtic fans insist. Instead it was a reckless, brutal two-footed lunge at our 'keeper that left him bleeding from Burns' studs.

Not only wasn't Burns sent right off the pitch, he was even allowed to score a goal that never should have stood. You see, that's the moment most Rapid fans remember when they think of that infamous match. And that's why Burns got kicked by our 'keeper, and punched by Kienast. The entire game might have taken a different direction had the ref disallowed that goal and sent Burns off - alas, we'll never know that either.

Don't get me wrong - not only Kienast but also Ehn (the 'keeper) should have been sent off for their actions, but you see, it's Burns who started it, and as a Catholic I hope he repented and confessed in time.

Now, to the Weinhofer incident. Apparently many Celtic fans have fond memories of seeing the bottle (sg.) fly and miss Weinhofer by yards/miles/whatever. Have you all forgotten that it wasn't just the one bottle, but many, and also not only bottles but also coins, lighters etc.? This alone should have sufficed to abandon the game and hand Rapid a 3-0 victory.

I suppose the only person in the world to really know whether something hit him or not is Weinhofer himself. If he wasn't hit then he's a cheat and a disgrace to the entire club. However, Rapid Vienna maintain to this day that he was hit by a "Gegenstand" i.e. an "object" - probably a coin.

I know there's nothing like a long-held grudge, and I know how many Celtic fans must feel - exactly the way we would have felt had Celtic got their way. You didn't win that match "fair and square", you won it thanks to an incompetent ref and foul play. (I haven't even mentioned Peter Grant's disgraceful deliberate stamp on a Rapid player's head! - much like Adebayor recently did to van Persie.)

My feeling is that in the end, with the UEFA ruling and the re-match we won at Old Trafford, justice was done; and no doubt most, if not all, Rapid fans will feel the same.

I'm not in a position to judge whether that Celtic side was one of the best ever, however I do know that our side was one of the best in the club's history, with Krankl, Panenka, Kranjcar (father of Nico) and Brucic. It was the season when we lost 0-3 away to Dynamo Dresden, only to win the second leg at home 5-0. When we played Everton in the final, Panenka was missing injured and Brucic suspended (a yellow card too many in the semis), and without our two central players we didn't really stand a chance.

Well, so much for history. I do hope our upcoming encounters won't take a nasty turn again. I reckon Celtic are favourites in Glasgow, and Rapid in Vienna. We're hard to beat at home.

One last remark: some Celtic fans said that Rapid are a bunch of divers; that's what they saw when Rapid played Villa. I'll tell you something: at Villa park there was one diver on the pitch, his name was Ashley Young, and he played for Villa. Two ridiculous penalties, that's all I say.

Thanks for reading this novel ;) ,

    Green-white regards,
    Luke

P.S.: Our hue of green is nicer than yours :86:

I see there point about the Tommy Burns goal. kinda anyway. We would have been * if that goal was allowed against us. But that's football, you get decisions and you don't.

Pretending you get hit by bottles which have been shown don't hit you though....that is NOT FOOTBALL.

The more banter back and forth on here the more I'm up for this game next week. Over these 2 legs we can maybe put at least a wee bit of that awful memory to bed by beating these bastids at parkhead and away (fingers crossed).

In the immortal words of Kevin Keegan, "I would love it if we beat them".

    Hail Hail!

COMPLETE AND UTTER * BOLLOCKS. And not true. Rapid were blatantly seen to have cheated and CHANGED their story accordingly. First it was a bottle. The change to the 'coin' lies came later.
That is historical FACT mein freund.

Now you really are taking the *?

    JUSTICE:47:??? GTF?

Like KKK lynch mob justice from a kangaroo court maybe:56:

Aye, right. My veggie * in parsely.
