This is about as bad as Barkas, Ralston, Bitton & Taylor rolled into one.

You obviously have a very short memory regarding worse (and even embarrassing) performances.

Abada was so quick to react in only his first competitive game with us (a massive one at that) and as a 19 year old who doesn't speak the language fluently, he was brilliant.

Bet you're one of they * on Twitter eh?

Why is Bitton still starting as centre half? Thats the bigger question. 3 managers have had to use him there in qualifiers. Lack of foresight with these * in charge.

Worth mentioning that we're essentially going though the exact same thing, our GK and fullbacks are horrendous and nowhere near good for us, our senior CB is naturally a midfielder, not very good and got sent off, and the other two cb's replacements are young players, one of which just made his competitive debut for us.

Next week we'll have Forrest available and a fully fit Abada, and hopefully one or two more signings to shore up the defence.

Keeping up the tradition of playing musical chairs in defence every year in the qualifiers, no matter what every year for a decade theres guys who never get a game at any other time or who never played before or haven't played in ages getting games there.

Janko, Gamboa, O'Connell, Hooiveld, Mouyokolo, Hendry probably half their games for the club were in European qualifiers.

I didn’t see any organisation, rhythm or flow in our shape or the way we set up to play. Hoofed it up the park n gambling on Edoard to take it n spray it about. How many years have we went into CLQ’s with Bitton at CB?

Was watching a team without any sort of nucleus and unrecognised. Was very few players with over 50 apps involved. The squad looks bare and needs additions. Ange looks like he’s up for the fight, but a major think is needed.

How anyone can take anything long term from that game is beyond me.

Gonna be a long * season if people don't learn to be patient.

Thought looked like a side still learning and adapting to me and still short on belief and quality. First 20 mins were scrappy then started to grow into the game and find rhythm with what Ange wants and really started to dominate the contest leading to a deserved goal and lead. Had the absolute muppet at the back not had a brain explosion trying to look like a hard man I've little doubt we would have kicked on and scored more and won comfortably, they looked gassed at that point. Going down a man meant we had to play more conservatively and by the time the numbers were squared our heavy pre season had started to reflect in some tired legs. Think it was a harsh free to give and Barkas effort (and I use the term "effort" loosely) was terrible and gave them a draw they didn't deserve.

Some negatives are that we still turned and passed back to easily instead of play positively, our RB and LB are well down on the quality needed and we still lacked cohesion for large parts because of a lack of movement off the ball.

Many positives for me too though. For a period the side started to "get it" and play with the movement and tempo that will trouble many sides and they will only get much better at it and for longer. Abada looks a prospect, Furuhashi and his workrate will make a big difference in our high press, Starfelt into our backline will add stability and experience. The next month will see the team continue to take big strides forward in fitness, press and pattern of play and the players will start to believe more as it does, I have little doubt. There should only be more additions in coming weeks to further improve areas of weakness as well.

Still LOTS of work to be done but can't wait to see it unfold!

Did you actually watch the game?
Yep the result doesn’t reflect the game. Should’ve been 3-1.

Too late now, obviously, but can you imagine the difference Mat Ryan would've made last night?

Wonder if that was one of the hesitations Ange was referring to?

Watched a different game to me. There was an intent that was lacking last year. You can tell they where told to look for the forward pass first. The passing was brave and they weren't scared to make mistakes. The tempo was electric. If we get the right players in that can play this swash buckling style it's going to be so exciting. That was the highest pressing team we will play this season and the system coped even with alot of inexperience in the side. Soro and Mcgreagor are a perfect fit for this aswell, albada was exciting. So many positives, the only negatives I can see can be solved by recruitment.

Sticky start but throughout the game you could see glimpses of what the new manager wants his team to do in terms of getting forward at speed. Hard to do without having a full squad and the right players for that style of play but its encouraging after the garbage served up last year by Lenny

As soon as Bitton forced us into a change we had no width and much of the second half was reminiscent of last year, even the soft free kick and losing a goal with a ball into the box.

With PSV or Galatasary waiting even if we get past this mob it could be a very short run in the CL but most of us are realistic enough to know that the EL is probably our level with the current squad.

Defence can only improve but young Welsh deserves to stay in the team. The other 4 ( Barkas, Bitton, Ralston & Taylor ) need shipped out permanently. They are not squad players as squad players should be able to come into a team and remain there on their performances.. making every player fight for a place in the team. Look across the city.. they got it spot on in every position, we are full of lightweight average players and that is all down to the board ( well probably Lawwell but the others let him run it that way so they are all to blame)

Signs are good, get more players in .. quality players and i will give the manager time to show us he can turn us into the attractive footballing team that the fans deserve

That offside they missed was a shocker too. If they call that at the time Bitton stays on and we stay on top. We should improve again by next week but it will still be a big effort to get through. Least we can go in to work on a midweek morning after a European game not f*con deflated lol.
