Kevin Doyle is unlikely to be sold to Celtic before the close of business tonight.

The Wolves striker is near the top of a contingency list of manager Neil Lennon if they sell Gary Hooper to Norwich.

But that is a long way from becoming a reality.

Norwich have had three or perhaps four bids rejected by Celtic who are keen to hold on to the 25 year-old.

And crucially Hooper is in no rush to leave the SPL giants.

Wolves are keen to sign at least one striker today and are pushing to make that two with Sylvan Ebanks-Blake's future up in the air with Hull and Crystal Palace keen.

DJ Campbell's situation at QPR is being monitored closely as is Marlon King's at Birmingham.

King could potentially be available on a free transfer with Wolves effectively taking him off the wage bill at St Andrew's.

Even if Norwich do come in with yet another offer that hits the 8m asking price, I just don't see how we can afford to let him go because at this stage it is pretty obvious we won't have an adequate replacement lined up for the best player in our squad.

How much would Doyle cost or is it a loan move for him if Hooper leaves?

It appears that Celtic will accept 8million, to me that's not enough for Hooper. I'm surprised that no-one has offered 8 million for Hooper, he's worth more than that.

Would be awesome is Russell or GMS came in if Hooper does go(no chance) but i would be disappointed in Doyle..we need some skill no more grafters for a change. Please.

Doyle for Hooper would not be a good deal.

Norwich's pathetic initial offer may have hurt the chances of him going for over that amount quite badly.

That's media speculation, Celtic have never put a price on his head, as far as we're concerned Hooper is not for sale and in order to buy a player who's not for sale it takes an offer you can't refuse, £8m in my opinion does not fall into that category, it's a fair offer if not slightly undervalued at best.

If Celtic do value him as a player at £8m and the rumours are true that Scunthorpe are due 20% of any future transfer fee then we should be looking at £10m minimum to cover Scunthorpe's 20% and for us to get our full £8m valuation.

I think you might be right about that. They should have told Norwich to fck off and never come back after the first derisory bid. They should not sell to Norwich as a matter of principle. If they sell for 8 million, they will be selling themselves short. The board need to set a precedent on the value of Celtic's players, even if that means taking a financial hit on Hooper and selling him for less money in the summer. Celtic's players are players with Champions League experience, they should not be going cheap.

I think wages would have been a very big stumbling block should we have tried to sign him. I wouldn't imagine he will be on buttons at Fiorentina.

Why? If Celtic reject £8m then it makes it crystal clear that we won't be selling for any less, at least not in this transfer window.

Lennon should get on the phone and ask Martin O'Neill to publically slap in a £10m offer for Hooper so we can reject it and further bump his price up :smiley-laughing002:

Stories are reporting that Celtic expect bidding to start at 8m, suggesting that's the sort of offer we'll listen too but the bid will need to be upped.
