bet that made your day:party048:but the fact that Sammy had scored more goals than fortune and mcdonald half-way through last season has nothing to do with your argument that sammy has a better work rate than hartson???

Nah. I would categorically say that Chris Sutton had a better work-rate than Samaras does.

    Emm.. good point.

Still, considering the amount of strikers we've gone through since Fergus McCann to only be able to list Larsson, Sutton and Miller as categorically having a better work-rate just high-lights to me how tight Sammy gets it.

He's not our hardest worker ever not by any means, but of all the things to criticise Sammy with I find the work-rate one the strangest of all.

Positioning yes, falling out of games yes, but not much more than that.

In summary the level of abuse he gets relative to ability is completely skewed. And the fact people will come up with any old reason to criticise whether it's right or wrong is completely galling.

Certain players are given a role in a team. If asked to play a role you do it. An example would be Ferguson asking Rooney to play more central and to drop deep less this season. BBJ was a striker we knew what he is/was about and is a completely different type of player to Samaras. Sammy is a decent player who could vastly improve. Im sure people get on his back because they have seen he could be so much better, patience it seems is running out for him. I would not be his hardest critic but i can see why people say he has missed his chance. Regardless of all that the point that Sammy gets a lot of unfair abuse is still a valid point.

Whether you think Samaras is a good enough for Celtic or not, the two things that can't be slated are is work-rate and heart. When I've heard him talk about the club, it's always clear he's passionate about doing well for Celtic and enjoys being at the club. Likewise, when he steps on the pitch - I think he works very very hard. Granted, he's had some very poor games but the one thing that can't be slated is his work rate - the effort is always there in my opinion.

He's been slated at times for his first touch, when he actually has a very good touch for his size, his pace (when he's supposedly the fastest player in the squad), amongst other things. Celtic fans always seem to need somebody to blame when things go wrong, sadly for Samaras, some people are targeting him.

Sometimes, the footballing abuse he gets is deserved but the personal abuse he receives from his own fans is shocking.

Robbie Keane, the man who was only here for 6 months and some say up for a big pay day, contributed far more to the team in a temporary spell to a man who is plying his trade here.

actually it can be slated and most likely has been slated by Neil Lennon.

Haha come on, the reason Robbie Keane performed better than Samaras is because he is a far better player and pretty much out of our league. This is the kind of mumbo jumbo magic that gets bandied around when trying to defend Samaras.

Comparing Samaras to Keane is simply not going to achieve anything. Different types of players, different style of play and different quality by miles.

Remember, Keane scored 16 goals this season, only playing from January to May. Samaras scored 10 goals for pretty much same period. I can honestly say that Samaras has quality, but we see his quality football every now and then, he's too inconsistent.

Robbie Keane is a world class striker, the man supports Celtic and we still can't attract him here on a permanent basis.

I think you need to set your bar lower.

Look, for the 9000th time I'm not trying to say Samaras is better than Hartson because he isn't.

But one poster criticised Samaras work-rate and cited the amonut of strikers we've had in the past who put Samaras work rate to shame. I listed many of these strikers and yes, Hartson is an example of someone who had less work-rate.

Larsson is a big exception of course, Sutton cost £6m and those who say Keane/Bellamy well they were here on short term loans and are top top players.

Apart from that people have been clutching at straws, and as Tab has pointed out, work-rate is the last thing you can criticise Samaras with.

Thats a ridiculous attitude to have pal.

and for the record, i was not comparing Samaras and Keane on ability, i was comparing them both on work rate, which cannot be denied that Keane's was far superior. And before there is any mention of this because Keane is world-class you dont have to be the greates player in the world but your work rate and desire can take you to high places...* look at gary neville! hes hardly the best player in the world but hes had a long and good carrer with man u because of hard work and determination..same goes for Jackie mcnamara..a right-back who was asked to play in any position in defence/midfield without a raised word, yet some people are outraged that samaras was asked to play attacking-left side. Come on lads get a grip!

Could you explain how knowing players like Robbie Keane coming to the club permanently is unrealistic, is a ridiculous attitude to have?
