Surely if we were created by an Irish person it makes the creation an Irish one?

Genoa fans (the clue is in the title there also, the clubs name is Genoa not Genova) fly the English flag way more than they fly the Tricolore. There is no significant diaspora of English in Genoa too, it's just about keeping the roots of the club alive.

That goes for Celtic as well plus it fits in well with the club colours.

I agree there should be no problem with someone taking these flags to the games and I personally would have absolutley no problem with it. However as wrong as it would be; living in the real world I wouldn't be surprised if some fool objected. I just don't think anyone doesn't take Saltires to Celtic Park because they are blue.

Why - again - would a scot feel the need to take a flag to watch a Scottish club playing in a Scottish league game?

I'm nae disputing Irish roots, but the lack of a plethora of saltires when we play - say - Ross County of an October afternoon surely is not a surprise? Personally speaking, I feel no need to do that in a Scottish ground in a Scottish league game. Who would?!

Why can't the club be both? That's how I see it anyway.

Our name is Celtic after all.

The St. Georges Cross isn't an English flag, many nations fly that flag.

It's got nothing to do with a * flag anyway, it's got to do with the supporters of our club for 125 years displaying predominately Irish cultural expression!

Brother Walfrid could have called us Glasgow Hibernian which would have been directly Irish yet he decided on the name 'Celtic'... the clue is in the title really.

By that logic, AC Milan and Genoa are English and you're beloved Barca are just as much Swiss and English as they are Spanish or Catalonian.

It's mainly recognised as the English flag worldwide and that's why the Genoa fans use it to keep alive their links to England.

Again, that's ignoring the many thousands of clubs who display their countries flags wherever they go, USA, Ireland, France etc..

I bet if DU made a European final there would be hundreds of Saltires.

    It should be ..:50:

Club is many things to many people. I support the club because of this & its an expression of my cultural identity being from Irish immigrants in Scotland.

I see the club as an extension of that....The way it looks its my cultural identity that isn't being welcomed, attacked routinely by the media for hundred years or more and now the club.

    Anyone?

I can;t stand it when people ask you to back up your opinion and then ignore it and don't afford you same courtesy.

Aye, except that analogy is shockingly flawed. The kid would be Scottish. Otherwise he could have a kid himself with a girl born in Scotland to Irish parents and claim that kid too was Irish. That could go on generation after generation until thousands if years later you're still labelling a guy who can trace his family back to Scotland through dozens of generations, as Irish

Anti Irish bigots  Indeed. I've seen someone label all scots as bigots on this forum and some well respected forum members backing that statement up.

Nobody claims Celtic is a Scottish club and has no Irish heritage or if so, should disown any Irish aspect.

But stating Celtic is a Scottish club with Irish heritage is neither a false one nor a view of "Anti-Irish bigots".

Oh and funny me, I always thought Celtic Football Club was formed for the poverty stricken in Glasgow, with a non-discriminatory ethos.

As for nothing about Celtic being Scottish. Except for history, geography, fan base, everything football related and participation in European and World events. You're spot on.

My own view on the tricolour thing, in the year 2013, is that it's purely as a basis to be the antithesis of Britain and indeed the now liquidated Rangers. Do you think the majority of those singing the Roll of Honour at Tynecastle have a legitimate interest in Ireland and its history or rather is it as a GIRFUY to those who are anti-Irish? The blue of the saltire also plays a part I feel. I've always supported the waving of a green and white saltire. Unless I'm mistaken, that would be the perfect demonstration of combining our Scottish base and Irish heritage.

    I answers it.

A group of our finest players (all of whom wee Scottish) being in possession of an Irish flag is conclusive proof that we are an Irish club. No doubt about it.

    You were right.

A lot of people are ignorant to that. St George is the patron saint of Catalunya hence why it's on the Barca badge.
