A football club will be formed for the maintenance of dinner tables for the children and the unemployed - A political statement

Infact going by the words of Celtic that "Celtic Football Club can confirm that any individual or group identified as being involved in any form of political display at a match involving Celtic will be banned immediately from attending matches involving the Club."

Means that Clubs as mentioned Dundee Utd, St Mirren and others should be banned from Celtic Park as they display SNP advertisements in their stadiums when Celtic are playing. :56::56:

The board has to go. Lawwell's statement makes it clear that political expression will not longer be permitted at Celtic Park. We are categorically not an apolitical organisation. Politics is what makes us more than a football club. Let's be honest, the football alone isn't anywhere near good enough to draw crowds in those numbers. Over half of Celtic's revenue comes from gate receipts; the club would do well to remember that. The fans don't want this anymore, Peter, really? You're a born liar. We are well on our way to becoming Hibernian and it scares the * out of me if I'm honest. Our history, our culture, our politics is what sets us apart. Without it, there is no Celtic.

It'll be no surprise if they close 111 again.

Celtic, the club who play a song over the tannoy before matches stating in the lyrics.. "let the people sing, their stories and their songs, and the music of their native land. Their lullabies and battlecries!!"

Then threaten to ban you when you do so!

Michael Davitt laid the first piece of turf at Celtic Park, de Valera presented us with the tricolour, * Save Ireland was sung after the founding of our club and generations of fans have sung songs of Ireland, Scotland, the International Brigade; displayed Basque, Catalan & Palestinian flags; opposed fascism, racism, homophobia and oppression but we're a non-political organisation according to the moneymen at our club. They're systematically ripping the soul out of Celtic.

Do the people criticising the banners sing Let the People Sing when it's played over the tannoys?

Because you may need to pay attention to the following:

Let the people sing their stories and their songs
And the music of their native land
Their lullabies and battlecries and songs of hope and joy

"Liberate" is a completely subjective term here though, and due to the massive time difference between the two (and all that comes with it) completely meaningless. People in the Middle Ages just didn't think in the way we do now - they couldn't think like we do. What Wallace would have wanted was completely different to what Sands would have wanted.

It's a too simplistic reading of history to say they "fought to liberate their respective lands from oppression". It's projecting are own ideas back into history to say they were similar.

But this is way of topic :50:

I think the meaning was to ask why is one political view acceptable and another not. It doesn't really matter who was on the banners, this selection just tied it back to Celtic.

You don't need to be an Irish Republican to agree with the message :50:

I'm on a phone, I've no idea what that banner is, too small.

Please, I'm not stupid. I know its an overly simplistic comparison but it was clearly the one that was intended. There's a reason it was William Wallace & Bobby Sands and not Boris Johnson and Bobby Sands. Both are viewed as patriots, liberators - rightly or wrongly - but one has hero status and is almost universally accepted & the other is almost universally shunned as a terrorist. There's a clear commonality - whether it's a misconception or not is another matter.

In defence of the Green Brigade neither banner was offensive in any way.

But the club say they warned them about it (getting fined) and they should be punished for not playing by the rules.

    not surprised at that.

Your last two posts have been asking if we should get into trouble for calling hun orange * and whether we should hate Celtic for the Mark Walters incident.

I'd get banned if I told you what I really thought of you.
