Just to let Derry Tims know, the Celtic shop in the Diamond is sadly closing down on July 31st.
However, there will be a big closing down sale.
I haven’t been up to it yet, so I don’t know what’s on offer, but if you have any free time, get yourself along and see if you can get yourselves some merchandise at a reasonable price.

I am from Derry and i'm gutted that the shop is closing down.
Now i dont know where im going to get all my celtic gear from. They say its due to the shop not making any money which i dont know why because there is always someine in the shop when im in it anyways, and no harm but it is a rip off aswell so they must be getting there money from somewhere. -
everytime i go there its always empty, not surprised its closing
-
Times are hard and prices are a * joke.
Not surprised these shops are closing. -

I think it’s been looking dead for a while.
During the MON years that shop was always doing well.
I haven’t been at many of the kit launches so I’m not entirely sure of the numbers, but I’ve been told by other that the crowds are getting smaller.
For example, when we released our first Nike jersey in 2005, there was a huge queue.
Since then, it’s gradually been getting worse.
Three things…
Derry city centre is on its knees. The Celtic shop isn’t the first to close and it won’t be the last. Businesses in Derry are finding it tough.
The prices are ridiculous. During the MON years you could get a long sleeved * home jersey for about 30 quid. Now you’re paying almost 60.
The lack of interest in Celtic in Derry is becoming more obvious. It’s all EPL, same all over Ireland really. -
They say it's because of the rise in Internet sales, its had an affect on shop sales. Over the course of the year that shop always did ok.
Shame really cause their a good bunch of bhoys up there. -
They hate England during the euros/world cups, they burn there flags then they support English teams all year round. Does my * head in :31: -
I don't think there is a lack of interest in Celtic at all in Derry. The problem is as has been stated that internet shopping is cheaper for many and myself, I was in the shop once, had a look around and walked straight out after seeing the prices.
Its a sad fact but people are going to go for the cheapest option nowadays rather than see money go towards the club, especially when a City like ours is already on its knee's and there is no jobs here. -

I was ripping the pish out of United, some guy takes umbrage to it and asks me "who do you support then?"
I said Barca, and his response was "how can you support Barca, they’re a foreign team?"
This was from a Derry born, Manchester United supporting Irishman.
I eventually told him I actauly supported Celtic and his response was (as you can imagine) "awww derr pure *, SPL is puree * haw haw"

Because as you say, the prices in the official Celtic stores are ridiculous.
Even the DVDs are a rip off.
I buy all my Celtic DVDs from Amazon.
But I do think Celtic are not as popular in Ireland as they used to be. -

A few of my mates who support EPL teams always say to me why do i support Celtic they're *, and when i say to them that they used to wear Celtic tops they say, aye thats because they were a good team back then.
Plastic supporters :47: -
A lot of shops are closing down in the city. Neil Thorntons fb "shutters down" shows the damning affect businesses are closing and jobs are being lost.
But I always took pride that we had a Celtic shop in Derry, the mu store lasted 14 months and the Celtic shop was still there Until now. Sad to see the clubs official store closing. There was always plenty of tourists in it also. -

Im not surprised. Was in it a few years ago and the prices were shocking. Everything they sell can be got much cheaper online so it was inevitable.
-
Bet their kids will end up supporting City  -

I dont think there is anything wrong with supporting a team from the EPL, that is if you dont have a local team to support. But these dicks from places like Dublin, Belfast, Cork, even Derry who support a team in the EPL yet completely abandon there own sides such as Shamrock Rovers, Bohs, Derry city etc are nothing but glory hunters * stains. If you come from a rural area and have no local LOI team, then you may as well support a foreign team. Even those who support their local team and a foreign team is fine, but anyone who neglects there own league, are directly at fault for the state of the league.

The reason why the Celtic store is much more expensive now is because of our main sponsor 'Nike' !
Nike as almost twice the price of Umbro on any item. -

I think they will all be struggling to be honest.
I always put my money into our own stores but yesterday i was in First Sport and they were selling the new home top for £43 compared to the £50 in our stores.
Thats quite a difference and a lot of people wouldnt be willing to fork out the extra for it.
