I wouldn't class Nicholas as a legend. I think he could've been if not for the move to Arsenal.

Champagne Charlie was a phenomenal talent in his first spell at Celtic. I was fortunate enough to see him and he was quite a player.

Charlie was past his best by the time he came back to Celtic, no doubt about it. However, I'm sure if you asked the majority of Celtic fans old enough to have seen him in the flesh in his first stint at Parkhead they would tell you just how good he was and that he is a candidate for 'Celtic Legend' status.

He was certainly a far superior player to what Scott McDonald is or ever will be.

You couldn't say that he would NEVER of been close to a Celtic legend because you never knew what he could of done in years to come if he'd stayed

Fair enough mate. I personally don't believe the McDonald could ever be a Celtic Legend.

Nicholas should have been but I don't think he has. We'll agree to disagree.

I can say that because, in my opinion, the evidence as I see it tells me that. Scott McDonald is obviously NEVER going to be as good a player as the likes of the players I listed before so on that basis I do not believe he would ever have achieved 'legend' status. That is how I see it.

Scott McDonald done a good job for Celtic but that is exactly how history will remember him - a good player who did a job for the club. That's the status he deserves and even if he had stayed at the club for longer I don't think he'd have elevated himself any higher than that in our memories. He simply does not have the ability to have achieved 'legend' status.

Thats just like saying we can't call Sutton a legend because he wasn't as good as the players before.

    Sutton was as good though.

You need to have a certain standard of play to be considered a legend.

Don't laugh but I think big Malky Mackay could've been a Celtic great.
A good old fashioned centre back, strong, physical & never hid in games, always played for the team & the jersey. Popped up with the odd goal(against the Huns). Could do with a player of his ilk in our team at the moment.

It took McDonald 2 and a half seasons to score 12 league goals under what Sutton had done in 6.

And Kris Boyd scored more goals than Henrik Larsson; what's your point exactly?

Sutton was a far superior player to what Mcdonald was IMO. No contaes to be honest. Sutton could have played anywhere on the park and you knew what you were going to get from him. Great player for us

    Totally agree :50:.

The word Legend is thrown about these days to the extreme. Classing somebody as a Legend is the highest honour they could recieve. I dont think half of the players people have named on this thread even if they stayed for longer would of even been near Legends. Look what Larsson, Jock and Jinky done for the club to be called a legend. Players like McDonald or Robson would of never in a million years been anywhere near the quality of some of the Celtic Legends we have now.
