He is better than McCourt and Mizuno , they have proved nothing yet. I rate Commons as highly as Maloney.

    £2 million?

Derby have stated they would only accept 'silly' high bids for Commons when the £3m. rumour was going, so I don't think they will accept £3,5m. neither.

I don't see Celtic pay what Derby wants, so I can't see him in the hoops now.

But if he come - he would rate over Koki Mizuno, Paddy McCourt, Paul Caddis and Willo Flood.

I would have used money elsewhere, but ain't the manager.

Commons is a very good player. Have any of you actually watched him play? He was the best thing in a Scotland shirt in the last game he played and as someone pointed out, he was great in the Carling Cup last year. Derby fans have mixed feelings about it. I checked out one of their sites and the general vein is that, although they would like to keep him (he's their best player, apparently), the money is all profit, as they got him on a free and they think he should be playing at a higher level. I'd just like to see a left-footer playing on the left and a right-footer on the right. My only concern is that it would be ANOTHER short midfielder. Across the midfield would be Commons, Brown, Crosas and McGeady, none of whom touch 5'10". He is an exciting player to watch, though and would support Mowbray's ethos of imaginative, exciting football, played on the deck. We might actually score some headers with wingers playing on the correct wings!

McCourt, McGinn and Mizuno have had about 3 starts for Celtic between them, actually if i'm not mistaken McGinn has never started. Imo that was down strachan, the three of them ripped every reserve team apart last season and won the league with weeks to spare. They were never given a real chance so I think its crazy to want them all out.

I certainly think koki can replace naka, if he's given a real chance!

Think £3.5m is a lot of money for Kris Commans, dont think he is any better than what we have.

Kris Commons is a terrific player. He has a corker of a left foot and
is a dead ball specialist. The sort of drop the shoulder type of winger who terrorizes full backs.
    I would sign him :50:

Well said that man. Can't fault one word of that. I think Commons would be a very good player for us. From what I've seen of him he's a far better prospect than Mizuno or McCourt who haven't proven themselves yet. Commons has and the SPL won't faze him either. Remains to be seen how he'll cope with European games but then that could be said for Fortune also.

At least we won't have to put up with the dire turgid style of football we've witnessed the last few seasons.....roll on August :50:

If we get him fortune and N'guemo I'll be happy, need a left back and maybe a centre half and we should be laughing

He's got a brilliant left foot, but not worth 3.5m when we need that spent elsewhere..

I think it was Derby vs Nottingham forest

He had a couple of good shots hitting the post and scored a peach too i think, then scored a peach vs man utd.

It would make our squad in terms of midfield very strong if he came in. in comparison to the rest of the SPL anyway.

I hope we get Commons. I've only seen him play a few times but i thought he looked good, quick, good dribbler and a strong shot, should do well up here.

I'd pay £3.5m just for his left leg. Alan Thompson would be proud of that particular peg, and I really hope we are tying to bring him north. He offers something different to the team, new options. We need that. He isn't an out-and-out winger, he wont get the ball and run to the byline and whip it in. As people already pointed out, we have FOUR of that kind of player. Cutting inside on that left foot could be very very effective up here.

As for the cost... well, you want money spent, this is us spending. Make your * minds up.

don't know if this has been posted elsewhere but could McManus play let back while Loovens and Caldwell hold the centre? Otherwise we're sitting at the start of the season with Naylor as left back or????????. Mind you am not sure about Mick at left back, but we need to do something.

Does anyone think it's possible Maloney might play in the middle instead of on the wing this year?

    Are you on the smack?

Seriously though, McManus is slower than a week in Bar-L, a full back HAS to have some pace, the more the better.

He's a decent player all right and would improve our midfield with Naka going but I'm not convinced he's worth £3.5million, then again is any player nowadays actually worth their transfer fee?
