It's swapping an overlapping wingback for a no-nonsense LB. It'll certainly shore up our defence domestically, but it might mean that we won't see much overlapping with McGeady (granted, Naylor didn't do much last season, but he was great at it the season before). I think McGeady would be creative enough on his own and would probably appreciate having a defender behind him who will not give him so much cause for tracking back. Robinson and Brown in an Old Firm game would be class!

well considering that naylor is going to leave, we'll still need two left backs. if robinson was one of them i'd be happy enough as long as we keep looking for another left back with the same quality rat.
if lawell and strachan think that signing robinson will take us to the next level then there crazy but he is good enough for spl

I honestly believe this guy will be signed. Maybe him and Tamas on the same day.

Celtic consider surprise move for West Brom's Robinson but Sunderland still wait on Bobo

Celtic manager Gordon Strachan is contemplating a transfer gamble on West Brom left back Paul Robinson.
The 29-year-old Englishman has emerged as the latest candidate to fill Gordon Strachan's problem position — 12 months after the collapse of a move to Wigan.

Possible option: Robinson is on the Celtic radar
Also wanted by Sunderland last summer, the former Watford star is currently seeking a new deal at the Hawthorns as he enters the final 12 months of a five-year deal.
An impatient Sunderland, meanwhile, were still awaiting a final answer from Bobo Balde last night in a move which would open the door for the Parkhead side to seal a £3m move for Romanian international Gabriel Tamas.

This was in a few of the papers in England yesterday ?

He is a very tough tackling left back and can also play centre back

Seen him a few times down here strong, solid and can whip a good ball in the box!
    Better than Naylor as well!

    What is his value?

    Maximum 1 million

    One year left on contract.

We could do a lot worse

I'm happy enough with McGeady bombing down the wing, full in the knowledge he can be confident of the man behind him. * sight better than Naylor, who IS an average Championship player. He would also be solid as f^ck in the SPL.

    Yes please. Very much so.

this player wont be capable of competing sufficiently in the champions league. some of these targets really do baffle me sometimes. how can we be expected to progress in europe if we're signing players that are close to 30, overweight and have had little experience against top class opposition. he probably would be a decent defender in the SPL but when your coming up against the likes of ronaldo and messi in europe you need that extra bit of quality that takes a few million to buy. if celtic aren't prepared to pay that bit extra to bring in a bigger talent then we'll never progress onto the next stage. think of the money MON spent on hartson, sutton and lennon..big money but the job they done was priceless. These big players pay back dividends in a way that a temporarily average, cheap player can't.

P.S with an exception to Henrik of course ;)

The problem is left backs are few and far between. Theres no way you can get a Champions League standard left back for less than £5 million. This guy will be cover and no more until we unearth a cheap gem or someone comes from the youth. Both are unlikley and unless Naylor sorts himself out this is going to be a problem for years to come.

    Bit harsh, surely?

As for "no talent" - team of the year in the championship, getting his team promoted to the best team in the world (3 out of 4 semi-finalists).

    Nae *.

Fair enough a player like del horno would excite me more, but that's just the way of things.
