I was there 2 years ago for my brothers match in the uefa youth league against red star… cheap as chips, pints were like 98c… 10 pints for a 10er :57: 5 of us had a meal and drinks in a restaurant near the ground before the match and I think it was 35 quid for the bill, madness

Last year was a kind draw by UCL standards and we still couldn't muster 3rd place.

We should be okay for automatic qualification next season. Then for the new set up as long as we finish between 9th-24th in the league we’ll have a play off game for CL last 16. My guess is the losing 8 teams from play off’s will then enter the Europa league last 32. Nothing confirmed for that yet though.

It's more the qaulifiers. Like if we * up against molde or something pish in the last playoff round and that's us. No Europe just because we won our league but lost one game? Surely winning the league doesn't mean we can't ever get in the europa again the odd year we * up one game early season.

Yeah be a good trip. Me brothers team is in the uefa youth league again this year so hopefully he gets a decent spot and I’ll go for the away leg of that aswell. Won’t know who he will get until CL groups are announced though so I’ll have to wait n see.

We's still transfer to the Europa League in the new set up if we lose in qualifiers, main difference is that 5 rather than 4 teams qualify via champions route so should mean we're almost certainly always seeded and get a slightly easier draw

Not so much 23/24 but see the line about not winning a knock out tie in Europe since 2004, I decided to have a look at it and who actually put us out and at what stage.

    This is the breakdown:

    - 2003/04 lost to Villarreal 3-2 on aggreagate.
    - 2004/05 didn’t get out CL Group
    - 2005/06 beat by Bratislava in qualifiers no actual Euro football
    - 06/07 Beat by AC Milan in extra time of last 16 tie, the eventual winners of the tournament.
-07/08 Beat by Barcelona 5-3 on aggregate again last 16 CL
-08/09 We didn’t get out our CL group
-09/10 we didn’t get out our EL Group
-10/11 never even made group stage football
-11/12 never got out EL Group
-12/13 CL last 16 beat by Juventus 5-0
-13/14 We didn’t get out CL Group
-14/15 beat by Inter Milan 4-3 in EL last 32
-15/16 didn’t get out EL Group
-16/17 didn’t get out CL Group
-17/18 beaten by Zenit 3-1 in EL last 32
-18/19 beaten by Valencia 3-0 in EL last 32
-19/20 beaten 4-2 by Copehagen CL last 32
-20/21 didn’t get out EL Group
-21/22 beaten by Bodo Glimt 5-1 in ECL last 32
-22/23 didn’t get out CL group.

So in those 20 seasons it is pretty grim reading but I actually think the more alarming part is between 09/10 to 21/22 we only made the CL groups 4 times in 13 years.

When you actually look at the knock out ties there are only two we have played in that time period where I would have had us as favourites Bodo/Glimt and Copenhagen.

Zenit you could maybe argue but they still had a multi million pound team and good Euro track record.

Other than that they are all big name clubs where we would have been underdogs. Don’t get me wrong it would be nice to actually upset the odds every now and again like we used too. I am more annoyed at not taking the chance to beat the likes of Copenhagen than the overall record.

You obviously haven't been paying attention. Celtic do not know how to play European football. We are ridiculously open and naive. Not since GS was in charge have we looked solid and capable in Europe, despite the occasional good performance or result and unless we make some basic adjustments when we play there then it's going to be more embarrassment this season. As I pointed out in another thread, when we play any team that has even a modicum of ability, whether in Europe or just a friendly, we simply can not keep a clean sheet. European football demands patience and concentration for the whole game and we as a team haven't shown we are capable of that yet. Going by our recent European form all those teams you say we have nothing to fear from would almost certainly put us out of a two-leg knockout tie. Until something changes it's more a case of them having nothing to fear from us.

There be no Europe after Christmas if we don't get our * in gear and Start signing quality players and nearly another week went by and no signings as Starfelt leaves as well .
No Jota replacement yet either and really underwhelming what's happening on the transfer front with 3 weeks to go .

That Shakhtar team last year was probably the weakest side I have seen us play in the CL groups(no fault of theirs, their country is at war after all) yet we still couldn't beat them. We had majority of the play and possession, by far the most and better chances and still nothing. At this moment in time we are amateurs at CL level. I just hope this is the season we start to turn things around.

Unless we get a very favourable draw, if we don't sign a tried and tested DM we'll finish bottom of the groups again. Big question marks over GK and LB too.

Jota was one of our best players in Europe during the Ange era and we still haven't replaced him either. We really, really need to sign some players man.

For qualifying aye we’ll be Europa league at the least, if we lose our top 10 association the we’d be in the play off round of for Cl qualification.

I hope Rodgers will adapt his style bit. Did mention that in one of his press conferences so hopefully see a bit more pragmatism.

Based off of my FM playing this year too, when the format changes if you finish outside the top lot of teams or don't go into the play off for the last 16, there's nae parachute into the europa.

So if we continue to qualify for the UCL the chances are we will never play Europa again unless we finish third this season in the groups.

There’s no parachute this season but surely they’ll add that at some stage. Hope so anyway.

Suppose it’s not the complete end of the world for us though, we’d be guaranteed 8 games at CL level and then if we do finish in the top 24 we get another two games.

Imagine that???? The Celts in Dublin. Belting out the rebels on O'Connell Street outside the GPO. It would be absolutely awesome. We would have zero problem with the Guards and would be on our best behavior, as we'd be in the motherland!

Imagine though. Just imagine this scenario. Imagine the huns dont qualify for the Champions League....end up in Europa League....and so do we.....and we both go right through every stage and end up in the final. Now that would be something. The * from the North would come down to support the huns and also the rightful owners of the North would come down to support us and Ireland would be on the brink of civil war part 2. Oaft!!!
