This is not a new thing. The only time our average attendance was well above 50,000 was back in the O'Neill era and that was when we had genuine world class players and loads of money to spend on transfers.

I was surprised actually at how many turned out today. Like I said earlier, we took 10,000 fans to Barcelona only four days ago and then got almost 48,000 today.

As for some supporters getting fed up with Celtic, what nonsense. Lots of folk don't have the money now to get to every game, but hopefully, the financial situation around the world will get better in years to come and we'll be looking at a packed Paradise every second week.

    6000 behave yourself :smiley-laughing002:

Crowds are down all across Europe.

People don't have the money, why is this so hard to understand?

I had to put half away for two weeks to afford to take my bhoys to this match... and that's only after learning it was a fiver for kids!!!

Fair enough but the average attendances at Celtic Park were still fantastic, albeit you can argue on the decline on the global economy, in Gordon Strachan's last season 4 years ago.

its stupid to compare ours and sevco attendences, first of all is the only thing they have to cling too this year, but as someone put it on twitter, its like primark saying they had more customers that harrods last week!

their "world record" attendence isnt even a world record, Santa Cruz and Guarany de Sobral had more! And it doesnt even really matter.

our prices are much more than theirs, and we have the added games of champions league football, which some people are travelling too, so of course people will pick to go see barca or spartak rather than killie and dundee. most of us cannot afford to go to every game, i am sure we would all love to be able to.

i think the lisbon lions during 9 in a row and 2 euro finals had an average attendance of 30000 odd often in the 80s i personally went many times when the crowd was 10000 to 20000 there is a myth that celtic park has always been full as someone said this was the second highest attendance in britain but people are moaning

it's life, the * going on with the world economy has just * everything, peoples mood because they stress over work/work cuts/being out of work etc...
we stress over were the money for our next meal for the family will come from, how we are gonna keep up with rent/mortgage's and other bills that seem to be on a never ending path of being risen every year.

i live in * London and * like this affects my life just like everyone else's it puts strains on relationships and so on that even in London I struggle to find the motivation sometimes to get a link for a game if i even remember there on as i have others to sort.

our home attendance and atmosphere will be a ghostly figure of seasons past until something is done about this worlds financial time bomb, however that is going to take many a year and is likely to get a little worse still before it gets any better for it to start having a knock on effect to how people moods and spending change.

or celtic could just charge £5 for everyone and their dog and offer beer and the rest of it at stupidly low subsidized prices to keep fans fueled and fed.

Celtic can only blame themselves for the drop in attendances. They continue to rape their fans wallets year by year from everything from pies, to merchandise, to tickets. Everything is overpriced significantly.

Spot on: i refuse to pay for food now inside the stadium as the pricing is a joke.

48K against Kilmarnock is still excellent, if Arsenal played Kilmarnock at £26 an * ticket would they get 48K? Probably not

Was out last night speaking to friends about this problem - not really Celtic related but regarding Scottish football in general. Quite a contentious suggestion arose:

How would people feel if Celtic started filling the stadium by giving away freebies (or a minimal fee ticket) to all sorts of local charities, school, services, unemployed, etc?

In one sense it would fill out the ground and it would allow people who otherwise couldnt afford to go to get involved. It would also encourage kids at a young age to go to see Celtic (and Scottish football in general), and we would likely still make a bit of money from additional food and drink sales and merchandise. It would surely improve the general atmosphere if there is a full capacity each week and in turn this might encourage peple back who are happy to pay full price. It is also very much in line with the roots of Celtic - looking after the local community and the poor, etc.

On the other hand, people might object based on the fact that they are coughing up £500 a year for something others might get for free. It may lead to less people paying up front for season books if they reckon they might get a freebie anyway a couple of times a season - especially if they are taking local kids to games anyway.

I actually dont know where I stand on this but I can see the merits - especially regarding giving free tickets to schools. These are the fans of the future it is just makes sense to get people involved at a young age. At the moment it seems like Celtic couldnt give a toss about local fans who are priced out the games - this would be a positive step to readdress this for future generations.

48,000 is a bad crowd,:56::56:,the 80s and early 90s speak volumes of this number of people attending the game,a reality check is needed badly by some.

Exactly. You'd think it was 28,000 by the overreaction on here. :smiley-laughing002: Almost 50,000 for a run of the mill game with no real competition? 95% of clubs in the world be delighted with 48,000!

It seems to be mainly those who grew up under MON that are moaning about the attendances? We were getting similar numbers last season and it didn't get anywhere near as much attention - simply because Sevco and the media keep on talking about the amount of cheap as chips tickets they've sold in the diddy 4th tier.

I thought the attendance was pretty decent yesterday. Not like the place was half empty.

It's going to be hard to get 55k every game when it's just too expensive. And no one can really complain that it's only full on European nights. You choose for your money's worth and in the CL is where you get it. £30 for Celtic vs (insert SPL side here) is a farce. We might be a big club, but at the same time, we have skint fans who can't simply afford the luxury. A single fan could spend up to £100 a game; ticket, travel, food & drink. And that's just for a fan from around Scotland. What if you had to get accommodation as well? Could see that rise to maybe £200-300? Bit much when you have increasing bills, traveling costs, decreasing/frozen wages, etc.

How many were at the top EPL games this weekend? 40-50k? Time to calm the * down and accept that 48k is not a disaster.

Only Arsenal had more than us in terms of attendance in the whole of Britain this weekend. I don't know much how their ticket prices are though and of course, London has the same population as the whole of Scotland (plus 3 million more), so it's inevitable that they will pull in more local fans. They also play in the EPL too, against better quality opposition. Celtic Park would be selling out every second week if we played in a league with actual competition for places.

The last time we had truly great attendances for home games was around 2007, pre-recession. I was on the Celtic website earlier looking at past games (mainly from the Strachan era) and the home attendances back then were phenomenal. You don't appreciate it until people can't find the money any more and stop going.

    Attendances At Paradise

Why is it so difficult to find out the attendance for home games? We used to shout from the rooftops back when we always came close to capacity, but now it's like a big secret.

    YAWN!

    1. there is already at least two threads.

    2. Who gives a * *?

This * only started after the huns died and now the zombies are making a big issue out if it because that is the only thing they have to compete with us on... what with them being 4 divisions below us.

Stop giving them the time of day.
