    What do you think would be the best route for the club to take? :lingua:

    So, if joining the English premier leagues no an option there are 2 alternatives;

    (1) Remain in Scotland and tread water in a professional league that is in terminal decline.

    (2) When / if the opportunity presents itself join a European super league.

    Do absolutely everything they can to get into England. I'm fairly sure they're already doing so despite all the braveheart drivel.

    I don't think the league is ina permanent decline? It isn;t the best and at times has stagnated but its not in decline.

    As far as I am concerned, I would happily throw scottish football under the bus if it was in the interest of Celtic. As it stands throwing them under said bus would be against out interest, but if that where to change I certainly wouldnt have a problem with it.

    Allowing the forces of darkness to cheat and get away with it, blatent bias against Celtic, and, as much as I dislike religion/politics in football, the anti catholic/irish sentiment is clear.

    * them.

    The problem with a "Northern Euro League" is that it would still be tiny compared to the Premiership, or La Liga. It would probably be on the same level as the Süper Lig money wise, which is still big but small in the grand scheme of things.

    "Leaving" Scotland to join the "English" league set-up isn't really any different from "leaving" Scotland to join this hypothetical Euro league. Just different countries we'd be joining.

    Don't really understand why people are making such a fuss about playing English and Welsh teams, while being quite supportive of playing Swedish teams (no offence to Swedes on here, but we all know the Allsvenskan is about the same level as the lower half of the Championship).

    I don't really care about petty nationalism (I don't see how we'd be any less Scottish or Irish for playing against English and Welsh football teams on a weekly basis). I'd like to see Celtic playing the best, which, like it or not, is the Premiership. Saying that, I don't think we'd get in :smiley-laughing002:

    Sorry, I agree the league is not in terminal decline, however as a professional league I think it is in terminal decline. Some of the clubs are barely professional and when you look at the state of many Scottish clubs and compare them to where they are, compared to English clubs, that were their equals 30/40 years ago I hope you know what I mean.
    I think the Scottish league is very :smiley-laughing002:good and have a great deal of respect for many of the smaller clubs that keep going year in year out with limited recources.

    However, for Celtic to realise our potential as a professional club, we have IMO to get out of the Scottish league ASAP.

    Out of all this people haven'y actually realised the league isn't really in decline. All the top 6 teams are having there best seasons they have had in years domestically. It's on the up.

    I think people had less of an issue with that than the suggestion that we form a British FA, thereby losing our country's status as a nation, in order to further Celtic's ambition to play in England. In the eyes of FIFA and Celtic fans on the whole (evidenced by an independence debate involving Celtic fans), Scotland is as much a nation as Ireland is, so you can understand why that would be met with fierce opposition. Ironically, some of the people supporting that obviously Unionist proposal are Irish nationalists or republicans.

    Still wouldn't want us playing in England in any case.

    Can anyone envisage Celtic playing in Europe with a Union flag beside their name if this British FA idea were to go ahead? :56:

    We've won the league in March, it will still considered * until another team can challenge Celtic and nobody in the league will be able to do that. A euro league would mean the end of a decent away support, the English leagues are the way to go.

    Exactly. Aberdeen and Dundee united are doing well domestically. United and killie have sorted out their financies. We are doing great domestic and still clearly trying to suss out our European tasks.
    I actually think we would be better off doing a Cl group stage one year, and the next year going on a semi final (or better) run in the Europa. Combine the money of Cl with the glamour of getting to later stage of a euro cup. It softens the blow of not getting further than last 16at best in cl, builds our stature (look at atletico Madrid) and keeps the money flowing in.

    Maybe it's a little perverse but I actually like being the underdosgin Europe. Our success is never bought. The Champions League is essential a * measuring contest between Europe'a richest clubs, yet we regularly confound expectations. I'm not saying I wouldn't love the club to be able to buy the best players in the world and compete for European titles but there's something really gratifying about doing well in Europe with our domestic constraints. Success is more authentic.

    I don't currently lose any sleep with an essential part of the union flag beside our name.
