    I'm the complete opposite Sean.

I hated the idea of Celtic playing in England a few years ago. But as time has went by, I started asking myself what the difference would be. Currently, Celtic are playing in half empty stadiums home and away, supporters that do travel to games to watch Celtic play glorified pub teams are treated to their buses being stopped and searched, not being allowed to have a drink, not being allowed to sing songs, filmed while watching the game, threatened with not being able to take flags to games etc, and all the while paying a premium price.

You know as well as I do that the Scottish footballing authorities and the Scottish media are corrupt to the core, and will peddle the whole 'Old Firm' nonsense if Sevco ever make it to the SPL. If/when that happens we're back in that rut of being associated to this 'two sides of the same coin' nonsense, it would be regression not progression for the club.

Now I'm not saying that Celtic playing in England would make these things all better, but I don't think it would be any worse than what we have now. And at least Celtic would be at the top table of football, were the club belongs.

We are a Scottish Club we play in the right league.:50:

Having said that, when the "FA" started up the man who drew up all the rules and regulations wanted Scottish, English, Welsh & Irish Clubs to play under the one organisation hence "THE FA".

Many in England like to think its called "The FA" due to England creating the rules. RUBBISH the rules were made by a Scot and he intentianally chose the wording "THE FA" so that clubs from all 4 countries could compete in the same league. Problem was all the Scottish Clubs said no and created their very own body as did the Irish a year before.

I can see where you are coming from here, but can you tell me this? I have seen the comment that we play glorified pub teams on this forum a couple of times today and am curious as to what signifies a pub team. If by chance Celtic were invited into the lower Leagues of English football would they be playing a higher standard of teams? In my opinion the lower Leagues in England are * and the top 4 or 5 teams in our league could probably hold their own in the Championship with ourselves comfortably in the top half of the Premier League.

I agree, I don't think the standard of football in the English leagues is all that great either. But the truth of the matter is, the likes of Aberdeen, Dundee United and Hibs etc couldn't even compete with many of the teams playing in the English Leagues 1 and 2. Especially when you consider the supposedly better players playing in Scotland who decide to sign for lower league teams in England. I think I'm right in saying a big deal was made because Hibs spent money on a transfer fee in the summer!

I never want to see Celtic play in england but if it happened we would win that league in 5 to 10 years with the money generated. This would also see Celtic win in Europe again. But as i say i support Celtic for many reasons not just because they win stuff. Its like Athletic Bilbao for me "a cause", " a people", "more than a club". I wish more fans looked at it this way (a lot do, but not all).

In what way would Celtic stop being 'more than a club' if they played in an English/British league?

I'm old enough to remember the glory days at Celtic and believe me it was fantastic when we were the best team in Europe.
However, I fear that will never happen again as long as we are in the Scottish league. In the 60's you would get 30,000 people at Firhill for a normal game never mind a title decider. The point being that the other teams were much better/bigger clubs then, sadly the profesional game in Scotland is in long term decline.

It goes against everything we stand for. If that's not immediately obvious, there's no hope of explaining it.

If we do go down there its just going to be fine after fine constant pressure to remove everything about the club and our fanbase will be replaced with fanboys that's only if we stay up there's no grantee

No, it doesn't. Very little would change, Irish nationalism will still be as deep rooted within the Celtic support as it is today.

The 26 counties is an independent state therefore could not join the British association. You may as well ask France or Germany to join the British association.

As for the 06, they can join if they like for all I care. If anything they would become less British.

The league and teams we play against week in week out is incredibly depressing

How would they possibly become less British? :smiley-laughing002:

The Celtic support is overwhelmingly in favour of Scottish independence, yet you're asking them to join what is - to them - a foreign league. So I'm asking you, why not have Ireland join as well?

There's no way on Earth you'd let Ireland amalgamate with Scotland, England and Wales to form a British & Irish FA, so don't expect anything different from us.

I think you are chasing shadows and a red herring with regards to joining the English league, the future is a European league.
Perhaps history will tell that the champions league was a fore runner to the European league?

What are you basing that on?

Ireland wouldn't be part of a British football set up because it's not part of Britain.

I do not want Celtic in The EPL or any sort of BPL. I do not know where you got this impression

As for Ireland joining the British association. This would be an impossibility as we are an independent sovereign nation.

....and for the majority of our support, Scotland isn't rightfully British either.

I dont think FIFA would let countries amalgamate.
