    GRETNA 2008…3

    (Ivison 10, Brotherston 48, * 82)

    CELTIC…3

    (Thomson 27, 28, Agbaire 90+7)

Celtic FC B scored late on to clinch a point on their travels on Wednesday evening as they were held to a dramatic 3-3 draw against Gretna.

After falling behind early on, the Celts fought back to take the lead heading into the break thanks to a quick-fire double from Corey Thomson.

The home side produced a comeback of their own in the second 45 minutes though, scoring early in the half before grabbing a goal with just eight minutes of regular time remaining.

However, there would be more late drama as Lenny Agbaire popped up with a header to secure a point for Celtic in stoppage time.

The Hoops kicked-off the New Year in strong fashion after overcoming Broomhill in their opening game of 2024, and they would have been looking to do the same in their first away fixture of the year.

However, it gets off to a disappointing start with the home side opening the scoring inside the first ten minutes of the match. Pouncing on a defensive mistake in possession at the back, Gretna took advantage with the ball being slotted into the bottom corner of the net.

But after finding themselves behind, the Bhoys put in a strong showing for the remainder of the first half as they looked to respond to the early setback.

Rocco Vata was first to try his luck with a strike from just inside the area, but it was a comfortable save for the goalkeeper, who would have plenty to do in the opening 45 minutes.

The Hoops quickly found a way back into the game just before the half-hour mark, turning the match on its head thanks to a double from Corey Thomson.

Winning the ball back high up the pitch, the midfielder slotted a smart finish home to level things up before scoring a quick-fire double.

Straight from kick-off, the Bhoys were on the front foot once more and after breaking down the Gretna backline, Quinn squared the ball to Thomson, who had the simple task of tapping home.

The youngster almost completed a hat-trick which would rival some of the quickest in world football, going desperately close to a third just minutes later. His dinked effort would go just wide of the target though.

As the half went on, the Celts continued to pile on the pressure with the likes of Justin Osagie, Ben Quinn and Lewis Dobbie forcing the Gretna number one into smart stops.

Both Vata and Mackenzie Carse would also come close with efforts from range striking the woodwork. But heading into the break, Celtic would only have a one-goal advantage despite their dominance.

And they were made to pay for that as the home side came from behind in the second half to take the lead heading into the closing stages.

The first of the two second-half strikes came early in the half as the home side kicked-off the second 45 minutes in a similar fashion to the first by scoring a quick goal.

Despite dominating much of the possession, it was Gretna who would grab what looked to be the winning goal on 82 minutes as David * slammed the ball home from close range past Joe Morrison.

But there was still time for more late drama with a considerable period of injury time as Lenny Agbaire sealed a point after heading the ball home from a set piece into the box.

Ultimately, it was a disappointing evening for the young Celtic side who dropped two points following two strong victories in the league.

The Bhoys will look to put that behind them this weekend as they travel to the capital on Saturday (January 13) as they take on Edinburgh University.

CELTIC: Morrison, Davidson (Dede 59), Mackenzie (Kyle 80), Osagie, Agbaire, Ure, Vata, Carse, Dobbie (Bonnar 65), Thomson, Quinn

    Subs: McLean
